This was lost in the fire. From runoffgroove's project:

If you want to make this layout usable in a realworld application try changing C2 from 10nF to .047uF and let the bass out a little.
Still sounds like Boston but not through your Dad's old transistor radio :D Thanks to tonmann for the idea!

If this is the same circuit Stephen used, then I agree that something should tame those highs. I'm thinking I might cook up a passive tone control for it...

You might try changing C6 to see what effect that has.. IIRC I just stuck in a 470pf and never tried any other values.

Funny thing: last night I tried it with a LP copy with P90s and it sounded GREAT! I might have to try to fit a switch in there. Maybe instead of a classic/modern switch I'll do one for the cap. my7of9 suggested changing C2; would this be a possibility, too?

*EDIT* actually, this brings up a question I've had for a while: is it better to change the input filtering or the output filtering to modify tone? The same, maybe? Depends on the circuit? "Try it and see what sounds best"? :D

The short answer is it depends what you want to do.

Using a fuzz pedal as an example: If you don't want the bass frequencies to fuzz - the input side, if you don't want high frequencies to fuzz/fuzz too much - the input side. If you want to smooth the fuzz ( make a square-looking wave more "round shouldered"), reduce the high frequencies - then the output side. Reducing the bass at the output is possible but at some point it will affect the square-looking fuzz signal. For a straight amplifier - input or output doesn't matter. Hopefully this makes sense !!

Making the following mod to the circuit:

With the switch open C = 11nF good for mmarsh's Les Paul

Withe the switch closed C = 47n good for my7of9's Strat

I guess that makes sense: do you want to put a tone control before or after the pedal? Thanks, tonmann...

While my value suggestion is good for me (Strat and Twin) it may not be good for you however I believe that C2 is the key after trying several different options thanks to the excellent guidance from Tonmann mind you! So it is really simple to change around so I figure go ahead and play with it a little and let me know what you come up with. Like I tell (my 7of9) it don't hurt much to try :)

Oh and forgive my rambling I am just trying the best I can to give back a little since I have received so much...ya know? And it is hard for me because I am no expert except when it comes to having a good ear for tone :D

I'm going to mess around with it this weekend, both caps and see, then maybe add a switch. Sometimes it sounds GREAT and sometimes it's all whiny and screechy. S'ok, we'll get 'er licked :)

This place is so awesome, everybody wants to help and contribute, and by God, they do!
