Anecdote: I had a friend of 17 years who was a Master Electrician. A bit full of himself but a friend nonetheless! When he found out I was building pedals he just laughed! Then other friends started telling him that I build really good pedals! (Thanks to this forum and the 98% of excellent personalities) He called me shortly after that and started giving me a quiz over the phone. His first question was what is the purpose of a Diode? I told him to make current flow in one direction but in pedal building we also use diodes for...etc...etc. He then proceded to ask more questions and I stopped him and said "John, WTF? I know you are a Master Electrician and we both already know I am not an electrician so WTF is your problem?? From day one he never offered me one piece of advice ever! I have not talked to him since! Quite honestly not too many people like him at all and he is a rather lonely fu#*er.

I hope that wasn't directed at me because this guy sounds like a piece of shit and I would never talk like that to someone, let alone a friend, who is just learning about this stuff.

Gino...I was Absolutely Positively not directing that anecdote above at you my friend! :D I was directing it at anyone who might make good use of such an anecdote and in your case "Grasshopper" I beleive Kharma is your friend!

That is a TRUE story above believe it or not!

Thank You again!!

Those are for the (optional) Fastons. Look up the part number in the BOM (optional parts toward the bottom) and you'll see how they fit. They're basically a blade terminal and then you put a part called a "disconnect" on the wire of the transformer. This allows you to get a good, solid electrical connection while being able to disconnect the transformer if need be. :)

^none.

I have no idea why, enough PCBs were sold and the initial interest was there.

I'm dragging my feet on buying parts and have been opting for easier builds. I'd still like to give this one a go and I have an enclosure for it on hand.

Haha same here. Once my wife had the baby it's been all I could do to get a couple builds running, and finish up a crunchbox. Make no mistake - when you have a child, your life ceases to be your own.

I ordered two and would likely not have either built or even screwed either one up at this point anyway, but sadly the post office goofed up somewhere along the line. I moved as they were being shipped and never saw them. Nobody's fault here, just a bummer. They look sexy as hell! I hope someone gets to these, as I was one of the excited and I still want to see them come to life!

Did this ever come together for anyone then?

SugarBear, my7of9, gtrplaya?

I sorted a big stack of project scribbles and print-outs overthe weekend and up popped a PCB for this I bought. I'm getting a tad bored of my little 1 watt Blackheart' schtick and, after building a synth over Christmas, this would probably seem quite easy ( you can laugh at me later for that one  )

So, did anyone ever build one and, perhaps more importantly, how'd you like it?

This is on my short list of 'when I have some spare money to throw at a project, I'll place the significant mouser order to put this together' stuff. I really want to build it, but just need to find the scratch for the parts...

I got a pcb of this build a while ago, and i have been scratching my head trying to find the build docs
and all of a sudden, today.. BAM here it is.
would be interested if anyone had success with this, how it sounds, and the xlr footswitch details.

Thanks for the answers fellas. I'd totally forgot about the board.

Actually, I'm not sure I'm understanding this correctly- this is, in the true sense of the word a preamp isn't it?
i.e. I can't replace my Blackheart head with it and run it out to my 10" speaker cab?

Note from Gino:
Gino wrote:
In the bill of materials I specified parts that can be found at major parts distributors (Digi-Key, Mouser, etc.). However, I specified a WIMA cap (item 5 on the BOM) and those are usually found at Mouser. If you absolutely have to use Mouser exclusively (I don't know why), Digi-Key part numbers can be searched for in Mouser. These are the part numbers on Digi-key's website that end in "-ND". Also, if you are looking for a particular part number, FindChips.com is very handy as it searches multiple distributors, including Digi-Key and Mouser.

I also included as much relevant pricing information as possible. For those of you who ordered more than one board, you can input the quantity in cell B7 and the prices should adjust accordingly. Obviously price breaks are not calculated, but at least this will give you a general idea of cost. I also left a few columns in that I use when finding parts for a job. For example, the "Stock?" column allows me to mark whether I've got the part in stock already or if I have to order it.

I tried to make the layout somewhat modular in that you don't have to directly solder the wires to the board if you don't want to. In the "Optional Parts" section I have included connectors and latching headers for the tubes, input/output connectors, FET switch and the XLR cable connection. Also, Chris highly recommends the use of a heat sink for U1.

Also, the layout facilitates board-mounting the pots but obviously this isn't required.

I must point out one goof on the layout though. The caps in the charge pump section, C1-C7, are 10uF 63V electrolytics. The footprint I used for these caps is way too big so the board will end up looking funny when it's done. Sorry about that. This is a better goof than the footprint being way too small though. If you would like your board to look nice, go with a 10uF 450V cap and it'll be the right size. It will affect the circuit in no way.

Good luck and happy building!

Gino

Does anyone have the wiring diagram or graphic diagram for this? The last 2 links in the original post. The links seem to be dead.
