Let's chalk this one up as being semi-original. ;)

I thought it would be fun to see what happened if I took the first mu-amp stage from the BSIAB and put it in front of the last two stages + tonestack of a Big Muff.

After a fair bit of tinkering, it actually does work and even sounds pretty good. It's heavier than a tubescreamer type, but not as heavy as a Muff or BSIAB. Lots of sustain, some nice harmonics, sounds articulate at max gain and full chording.

Clip is below.

Here's the verified schematic, now updated to version 0.4. I added a bypass cap on the last transistor for some additional output gain/volume and accentuated high-end sparkle. I also added a RF rejection cap at the input (marked "Cx"). This can be omitted if not needed.

All you Dungeons & Dragons nerds should recognize the name. But for those that don't, here's a fun blast-from-the-past scan right out of the old Monster Manual:

Here's a quick and dirty clip:

Drive is dimed, and the tone control is about 3/4 to the trebly side. This was recorded with my little Tascam digital 4-track using it's internal mics. Amp was a Valve Jr. I added a tiny bit of reverb just to keep it from being sterile.

I made some minor adjustments. Updated schematic in the original post.

CJ,

I keep telling myself, "You're a bass player. You really don't need to spend time/money building 15 different fuzzes."

And then you keep posting fuzzes.

That may be my favorite one from you this year!

Excellent!
