Thanks to ToadLC who mentioned excessive gating in his Logic Fuzz build. I had a look back to see what might be done, and I realized that I had specified the wrong transistor for Q1. Everything else is the same.

It should be MPSA13, which is a darlington. It will work with 2N5089, but it is quite gated in settings. You may or may not like this, so choose accordingly. Or, better yet, get a 3PDT toggle and swap transistors on the fly!
