This is my take on the original Tremulus Lune LFO. The original has 5 pots: Speed, Depth, Spacing, Fine, Smooth.

I've trimmed it down to the three I think are most useful: Speed, Depth, Smooth. I think I may change Smooth to "Wave" because it's essentially changing the waveshape. It ranges from sine-esque triangle to choppy sorta-square.

Not 100% sure what I want to do with this yet in terms of projects. But I'll likely do a tremolo and I may also test out a phaser idea that I've been kicking around for a while. It could also be done up as a standalone circuit for inclusion in existing projects (such as delay).

This is verified, so if you vero guys want to make a layout and start using it, go ahead.

NOTE: D1 is the visual indicator of LFO speed and shape. D2 is the LED that modulates the LDR (which is not on this schematic because it varies by project).

NOTE 2: I've found that the big timing cap (C2) at 10u is a little too fast at the slowest speed for something like a phaser. Try 15uf, or maybe a 10u/4u7 in parallel for that sort of application.

NOTE 3: I haven't included any power supply filtering because this will also vary by project. I can add suggested filtering if you guys want.

Well-timed, CJ! I was just trying to figure out how to stuff a Tremulus into one of my mini projects. Being LFO-noobish, how would one turn this schem into a functioning trem?

The above schematic is just the LFO. It contains no audio path whatsoever, so you'd need to add that to start with. The audio portion of the Lune itself is very simple and would be an ideal place to start.

Basically, the entire circuit I posted has only one function: to make D2 turn off and off at a certain rate and at a certain level of brightness. It's a great "engine" for driving optical-based effects, such as anything with an LDR or an optocoupler.

Sweet, thanks CJ! I'm adding this to my weekend breadboard projects.

Before anybody starts on a layout, let me update the schematic with all the power supply stuff included.

Wow, CJ. Early on in my building the LFO, LDR, etc thing confuse the crap out of me. I wish someone just did exactly what you did and explained it terms that my previously (and sometimes currently) newbish mind could grasp.

Looks cool, too. I'd be up to do a Perf or PCB Layout for it, if people are looking for one.

Vero-fiyed at last!

*edited to 1.3 to fix IC connection and add power filtering.

Damn, that was fast. Looks good, too. May I suggest swapping D2 and R10. I'd think that a you want the LED in a spot where it can be easily accessed to couple it with your LDR. Just my 2pf.

Good call.
Actually, just noticed a small error, have moved D2 down to the bottom. Edited it for v1.1

Wow! You guys are terrible!!

Super Noob Question Ahead!!!

Could i match this LFO to the «Little Angel» chorus by FC? or the PT2399 is completely in duty?

I don't completely understand yet how they work....still doing my classes...

Short answer: no, not as is.

Long answer: The Angel's LFO modulates the voltage on the VREF pin. This LFO makes an LED brighter/darker. BUT, it does that through............modulating voltage to the LED. So if the voltage range is right for the Little Angel (and I'm not sure if it is), then it *could* be used if you remove the LED. So the short version of the long answer is: maybe.

The LA uses a 78L05 regulator.............just trying to figure out!?

Could we use the remaining 4.5v to power the other LFO, or i'm really not getting it!

Yeah, you're not getting it.

The regulator supplies the main power (VCC) to the 2399. But the LA uses a neat trick to modulate the 2399's internal reference voltage (VREF). Changing VREF changes the delay time, but in over a much smaller interval than using an LFO on the delay time resistance on pin 6. That tiny interval is needed to make it sound like a chorus instead of a vibrato or modulated delay.

I did a small PCB for this. I'm always wanting a ready-to-go LFO for breadboard testing, so I did a compact layout. Speed is a board-mount pot, Depth and Wave are trimmers.

This could also be cool for adding on to an existing project.

As soon as I get the boards, I'm putting one in a new build of the Tweak Tone delay.

Yeah, so I accidentally left off the power and ground connections for the op amp.

I ran two short wires to the supply pads and now it works. I will fix this on the layout, and then it is good to go.

Invoke thy power and ground! Of the things you would think Eagle would check for, that's not one of them. Odd. (I just did a quick test)
