Could you use a Sziklai Pair in place of the 1 transistor?

Yep:

But it will be ugly to implement on that PCB. Totally doable though. 8)

bad Visio of the connections for the 3Z...

Forgive my ignorance - what are the pots for Tone and Vol? And are your pots facing the viewer since the PCB was numbered "1 2 3" and not "3 2 1"?

Also this looks like it could be a handy thing on vero 8)

Yes, pots facing you :) both are 100k but tone is linear (B) and vol is log (A)

This seemed like a good excuse to use DIYLC for the first time ;) Kind of fun!

*UNVERIFIED* as of now, but I'll build it soon. mmarsh maybe you can visually give it the "ok"?

That looks right to me. Build it and let us know!

Just to take this a step further, I'm putting the wire from PCB 3 in the center of a SPDT On/On to enable or bypass those extra 2 knobs :D

Finally built one of these last night using stock specs aside from a 2n5088 (didn't have any MPSA13s). A bit fizzy with farty decay. Switched to a homemade darlington (2x2n5089) and fiddled with the input/outputs and blammo! Going to pile this baby into a 1509A and rock out!

What exactly did you put for ins/outs?

Built a lot of Bazz Fusses with this tranny config, and it is by far my favorite. I too am interested in your in and out cap values. Let us know. thanks! I have 8 more of these boards to build up. :-)

Hmm, I'll have to check again...there were so many swaps! Ha.

I think it was something like 4.7 (nf, I think, but I could be wrong) for both. I socketed everything but the diodes, and pulldown/CLR resistors.

That said, I've had a point-to-point version on my board forever that literally uses just the following and sounds great:

4.7uf
0.1uf
100K
2N5088
1N914

OK. Extreme noob of the day question. Where is the one marked GND supposed to go? :? i tried connecting it to the dc jack, both input and output jacks (one at a time of course) and all i get is a real bad hum/buzz. no guitar tone at all. When i disconnect that wire, I get beautiful fuzz. What the hell am I doing wrong? I have both of the extra ground pads connected to the input and output jacks.

EDIT:
OK, I made it worse  now i loose all power when on wall supply. If I run off of battery, and don't connect GND pad anywhere, it seems to work ok. Think I may make it battery only with the setup I have now. It's not in a box yet. I been testing. Will that make a difference with grounding, etc?

The main GND pad is supposed to go to the DC jack. But it's possible you're getting adequate ground from the jack sleeve lugs.

But that doesn't explain why it doesn't work with GND hooked up. Are you certain it was soldered to the correct lug on the DC jack? If you soldered it to the battery tab on the DC jack, that might cause some issues with grounding.

I did something like this on a build, where whenever I attached the ground the pedal went dead. Have you checked that you've not got any solder overflowing? It may be that you're accidentally grounding out your signal too.
