I love my KOT clone, but I'm tired of having a gigantic pedal on my mini pedalboard. Plus, it's Friday and I have work to ignore. I whipped this together from various schematics available on the web and I might find time this weekend to verify it. I figured why not share while I'm at it!

Those of you familiar with the Bluesbreaker/King of Tone circuit will note that I've omitted the second clipping option. That's because I never use it and I am trying to cram this in a 1590A. I do like to occasionally use the KOT as a clean-ish boost, so I've left the diode lift switch as an option. You'll also note that D1 and D2 should each be two MA856's in series. Since these are tough to source, I put one diode in each direction in the layout for experimentation.

Phew! Here's an updated layout to include an LED clipping option. I had to move things around a little bit, so this is unverified (but should be good pending any stupidity on my part  ):

Regarding ICs, I like the JRC4580 or TL2272 as noted in the above layout. I would VERY MUCH recommend that you pile up your favorite op amps and give them all a spin on this board.

I have attached a .zip folder with a PDF of the build doc and the .diy file for those of you who like to tweak things.

Oh, sorry. The VB was only there as a note while I laid everything out, you can ignore it. And yes, lug 3 of the presence control should not be connected to anything. Are you building v1.0 or v1.1?

My first thought is that the electrolytic connections may be deceiving. Make sure they are connected where I've put green dots here:

If that's not the issue, post some pics!

yeah, I definitely had those positioned wrong. Fixed em and still had issues...

looked at the board and I noticed a strand of wire that didnt go through the hole and was touching another strand (Grrrrrr...Barry's wire seems to be a little under tinned lately)

Works like a charm now. Will post some pics when I get it all labelled up.

Thanks for the help...nice work!

Played with this a bit today...I like it. It can get pretty trebley pretty quick...also don't notice too much of a difference when flipping the switch around. That said, I'm using a TLC2272CP and it sounds pretty frickin' good.

Nice! It is a trebley circuit - you can get more bass by increasing the value of the input and output caps. Madbean recommends 27n-47n in the Aristocrat build docs. Might be worth a try!
