I built a Bazz Fuss up last night after realizing I have never tried one of the simplest (and most popular) Fuzzes out there  !

Anyway, I really liked the thing, but decided that doing a PCB for the Bazz Fuss would be a wee bit excessive.

I took inspiration from the Blackout Effectors 'Fix'd Fuzz', and did a PCB that has an LPB1, Bazz Fuss, and OKF all on the same PCB with toggle switches to bring them in/out.

There are external controls for Pre (the LPB1), Bias (bias on the OKF) and Vol (master volume).

Fuzzes usually sound best IMO with gain at max so there are also internal dirt controls for both fuzzes, and a DIP switch to switch the LPB1 between treble, mid and full range boost.

I'm going to add this to my next Dorkbot order and see how it pans out. All the pots and switches are PCB mounted and it should fit in a 1590B fine.

I think it could be a cool little pedal to have on a the 'board as it will serve a number of functions depending on how you have it setup.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think!

Very cool. Nice layout, too.

And in the eyes of the jackal I say KABOOM!!!
Imagine the toggleswitches as 3 DPDT footswitches too.
3 pedals in one with a true bypass looper
I want one!

Awesome!

I was thinking of doing something similar with one of those transistor array ICs.

Great execution on this cool idea. :D

Very cool indeed!

Two of my favorite fuzzes are Tom Dalton's Algal Bloom (Elektra into Bazz Fuss) and Great Wall (Bazz Fuss into Bazz Fuss). I was thinking about doing the three of them in series with separate 3PDT's. This might be a good time to cut my teeth on Eagle :)

Otherwise known as the Buzz Box, circa 2002. It's at the bottom of this page:

Not to derail too much, but the Buzz Box is a great circuit. And if you use switches for both feedback diodes, you can get a range of tones from crazy octave-ish fuzz down to heavy overdrive.

Yeah there are loads of cool circuits that could be plumbed into a 'frame' like this to make a cool combo.

Would adding clippers on the output of the LPB1 effectively make it an 'Electra Distortion' alike?

If so I can add them pretty easily to make it even more versatile.

I was also thinking Green Ringer -> OKF -> Big Muff Tone Control+Output Stage, would be a cool combo.

I may even do that one as well and order it with the first version posted here

Hey Guys,

After posting the original schematic, I went ahead and also designed the Green Ringer -> OKF -> Muff Tonestack (+makeup stage) that I mentioned.

I also modded the original design to allow for an Electra Distortion to be built into the first stage, rather than an LPB.

I've copied the revised schematic (and PCB layouts) below:

So, I got the PCB's back from Dorkbot and built both these suckers up.

And.... they are MENTAL.... in a good way of course  !

The LPB -> Bazz Fuss -> OKF version is the most mental of the two; there is an insanse amount of gain and fuzz available with this circuit, but it is tameable.

The external bias control helps as well, as it can be used to 'gate' the fuzz.

The Green Ringer -> OKF -> Tonestack version is my favourite I think. I can get a load of cool fuzz tone out of this thing.

I'm really liking these two combos. You can easily get 'noise' tones (ala Dwarfcraft/Devi Ever etc.) out of them, but you can also get more traditional drive/fuzz tones as well.

Anyway, I'm definitely going to get a small batch (10) of each PCB fabbed for you guys to try out as I think these are really cool (in fact they are the most fun I've had with fuzz for a while). I'll probably sell both designs in one bundle to try and keep the costs down.

I'll get some soundclips sorted out too.

Cool stuff...the triumvarite seems like it would be a good way to break up riots on the street/dispense of small children
