Inspired by the Crap-Fi Delay by allesz, I decided to see if a similar simple circuit would work at lower delay times for reverb and slapback. It does.

Once the basic circuit was up and running, earthtones helped me refine it and make it much nicer. He's wicked smaht like that. And honestly, I do believe that C11 and C13 could be omitted with no ill effect.

Delay time range is about 40ms up to about 140ms. As delay time is increased, more highs are rolled off by C4 (that was ETA's idea). So it's pretty much hiss/noise free no matter the delay time.

I've got a 2-sided layout done and prototypes ordered. madbean has done a single-sided layout (yet to be verified, but it's probably good). If somebody else wants to do a vero, that would be awesome.

This thing is a real launch-pad type base, and I think there may be at least a couple off-shoots of this coming in the near future. Check out this thread for more info:

Whoops!

Pins 13/14 are for an internal op amp-based low-pass filter. So I put pads in there in case somebody wanted to tap into that part of the IC. Leaving it off is what makes the circuit more simple, but it's nice to leave the door open for experimenting. I believe earthtones is working on a way to use that op amp as an LFO, so it might be possible to do a modulated reverb/delay in just one chip. That would be totally tits.

J1/J2 should be jumpered if not used.

Awesome only if it works!
As yet UNVERIFIED, I'll try and get it built tonight...

Ok, all VERO-fied.
It's a really cool and simple effect.

I would recommend a C value pot for the feedback, I didn't have a C 250K so I used a C1M with a 680k resistor across legs 1 & 3, this gives a 400Kpot which seems to work fine and can conjure Funkadelic style echo freakouts .

The effect is unbuffered too, so it robs a bit of top end and turned my guitar volume knob into an on/off control.
Either adding a buffer or placing a buffered effect (I used my Boss TU-2) in front will fix both these issues.

Would also be very interested in rigging a LFO with 13 & 14 too...

Thanks to it's creators 8)

Cool that it works, and since i like buffer i'll put one in there...

Just waiting that my 100nf cap tray is filled up again......

You can hook into the unused op amp in the 2399 for a buffer. At FSB, allesz just showed how to do that. Should be possible to do minor mods to your vero layout to make it work.

I will also try this on my breaboard version and then update the schematic.

Prototype board fired up right away. She's good to go. 8)

But I think I may add an output buffer. It sound fine as is, but there is a *slight* volume drop with the mix set past 50%. I actually don't mind it, but I figured other people might.

Would you guys rather have the buffer on board, or would you rather roll your own off-board in favor of having a smaller PCB?

Yeah, I'm thinking that off-board is the way to go. Some folks may want a JFET buffer, some may want op amp, and yet others may like it as is (me!). Or you could do a simple common emitter amp and add a little boost.

After some input from a guy who built one of these, I'm going to recommend using a smaller value pot for the Feedback control. I think 50k would probably be plenty.

CJ,

Is this thing good to go ?

I thought I read somewhere that you were doing some more work on it - maybe modifying it a smidge ?

Dan

I think it's good to go as is, honestly. There are any number of small changes I could make, but none of them are going to significantly improve the circuit.

I have some ideas for another new circuit that uses this one as a starting point, but I think the simplicity and small footprint are what make this one a good project.

Looking at it......and it looks like it might fit a 1590A? 8)

And when do you open a group buy for these?

I can definitely do one if people want it.

You may want to see what the new project is first, though.

Yeah..i could! 8)

No doubt that it will be awesome! You're adding 2-3 LFO and Stereo outputs?

Parts value change and a question for you guys that have built one of these already:

• I've determined that the Feedback pot was off in value by an order of magnitude. B25K is plenty. 8)

• Have you guys noticed that with feedback at max (most wet/repeats), there is some clipping if you really dig in with a clean guitar tone? I'm getting some clipping with my humbuckers, which are medium-high in output. If I turn down the volume a bit, it cleans up. If other people are experiencing this, I'll investigate a solution. It is likely a matter of knocking down the signal in the feedback path a bit.

Side question: If we do a run of boards for this, do you want to do it as is, or would you prefer to include guitarmageddon's LFO for modulation? I'm working on another version that has envelope-controlled modulation, which also might be cool.
