Build Your Own Clone Message Board

Hey Friends,

The Champlifier kit has been on my wishlist for a bit now and, while it has come back in stock a couple of times now, the 15 watt output transformer hasn't been restocked from what I can tell. I'd prefer to build this version of the circuit but I'm starting to get impatient.

If I were to go ahead and get the 5 watt version of the kit, would it be reasonable to find a 15 watt output transformer on my own and use it in place of the transformer included with the kit? Looking through the instructions, it looks like nothing else would change other than some wiring differences. Are the other components the same regardless of the transformer used? How much trouble am I asking for here?

This is my first amp build so please relieve me of any misunderstandings.

I would check with sales@buildyourownclone.com on the availability of the 15W version of the kit. Looks to me like it's in stock right now, though I could be wrong.

If only the 5W version is available, ask if you could purchase it without an OT for a price credit. Then ask for the model number of the Classic Tone 15W OT and order it directly from them. I think it's THIS ONE, but BYOC should confirm that. I agree that this larger OT (and some associated wiring changes clearly described in the instructions) is the only difference between the two kit versions.
