I just put together a tweed royal this past weekend. A problem I ran into is that the filter caps are really close to the solder tabs on the 6v6 sockets. I had to bend some of the solder tbs on the 6v6 sockets to keep them from touching the filter cap leads. I haven't tested it yet, I am considering drilling new mounting holes for the circuit board standoffs to move the board about 5/16" towards the control side.

Has anyone else run into this issue? If so how did you resolve it?

Could you post some good (i.e. large, well-lit & well-focused) close-up photos of the tube sockets and filter caps so we can see the problem?

this a better angle note that the solder tabs on the tube sockets are bent up to keep them away from the power supply

Ah crap, I see it now the 6v6 mount should be on the other side of the chassis. time to do some desoldering!

Yep. If it makes you feel any better, you're far from the first to make that mistake....

OK so I got the sockets moved re-soldered ran through the startup procedure.

I get some hum out of it in SE or PP mode and some funky crackling in standby. Hum unaffected by volume or tone controls No output from guitar. more hum in SE. I am thinking there may be something wrong with the way the rotary switch is wired.

Is there anywhere I can find out what the voltages should be at the pins on the output tubes to try and troubleshoot?

There are some voltages shown on the Tweed Royal schematic: http://byocelectronics.com/tweedroyalschematic.pdf

OK so I measured voltages on 6v6 pins when in PP and SE.
PP
tube 1 (furthest from rectifier)
pin 1 Empty 200 mv
Pin 2 3.381V AC
Pin 3 355V
Pin 4 338V
Pin 5 44mv
Pin 6 42v
pin7 3.38V AC
pin 8 21.79V
Tube 2 (closest to rectifier)
pin 1 empty 200 mv
pin 2 3.38V AC
pin 3 353V
pin 4 338 V
pin 5 44 mv
pin 6 42V
pin 7 3.36V AC
pin 8 21V

SE
tube 1
pin 1 empty 200 mv
pin 2 3.36 v AC
pin 3 380V
pin 4 380v
pin 5 50 mv
pin 6 68 mv
pin 7 3.36 V AC
pin 8 23v

Tube 2
pin 1 empty 200 mv
pin 2 3.3v AC
pin 3 380V
pin 4 380V
pin 5 29 mv
pin 6 50 mv
pin 7 3.36 V AC
pin 8 58V

Ok so I started measuring voltages on the first 12ax7 and quickly realized the wires to pins 1 and 3 were reversed. Double checked instructions and sure enough I had screwed up. Drained the caps and fixed it now works in PP and SE no weird crackling in standby. The rotary switch seems to be correct. :D

Thanks for the help!
