The hookup wire that came with the kit is kind of a pain to strip due to the white insulating inner layer that doesn't cut very cleanly. Do other builders just push the insulation back to expose the wire with this specific type of wire? Is there a downside to not stripping?

Is the white insulating liner plastic or cloth? If it's plastic, I typically strip it then cut stray strands away with some sharp nippers. If it is all cloth, you just push back the insulation to expose the amount of lead you need to work with.

From looking at photos of Champlifier builds, it looks like BYOC is including fender-style cloth covered push back wire. With that type, you just push back the insulation, solder your joint, then push the insulation back up to the solder joint. It looks like the same stuff that is still working fine inside of amps from the 1950's.

Thanks Morgan. I think I'll strip the initial attachment point on the board and push back the other end at the tube sockets etc.
