So....after playing around with this amp for a few years... and in my never ending quest to tinker....

Yellow Jackets make (2) different adapters to convert 6V6's to EL84's

the "YJS" series for Fixed bias amps

and the "YJC" series for cathode based amps.

Knowing that the Tweed Royal has (4) operating modes:

5F1 Champ (cathode bias)
5F2a Princeton (cathode bias)
5F10 Harvard (fixed bias)
5E3 Deluxe (fixed bias)

The Tweed Royal output section has a power amp that can switch between a single 6V6 tube, biased in class A, in a Single End (S.E.) configuration OR two 6V6 tubes, biased in class AB, in a Push-Pull (P.P.) configuration. For 5F1 Champ or 5F2a Princeon specs, turn the mode switch to S.E. mode. For 5F10 Harvard or 5E3 Deluxe specs, turn the mode switch to P.P.

Is it possible to do ?

I see VHT makes a 6V6 to el84 adaptor without mention of cathode vs fixed - so does it even matter ?

Thanks, Dan

All the modes of the Tweed Royal are cathode biased, so you could use the YJC series.

Modern Deluxe versions are fixed bias, but the original 5E3 was not fixed biased. It is cathode biased. While the 5F10 was a fixed bias, it is essentially a single channel preamp 5E3 with negative feedback. It's the negative feedback (or lack there of) that makes the Deluxe a dirtier amp than the Harvard.
