I just finished my first build, a mighty mouse and I'm pretty happy with it besides a couple things...

- When I play my guitar through the pedal on bypass, there's a loss of highs that is very noticeable in comparison to direct into my amp.
- It pops when I go from off to on with the footswitch, and switching between a couple of the modes makes a pop as well.

I'm guessing this is due to faulty soldering/wiring? How should I troubleshoot this?

Thanks

post some pics, check for cold solders, and check your wiring untill you go insane.

Do I use a multimeter to check the connections and wiring? I'll try to get some pics up soon...

if it works in bypass, odds are you got good wiring, should double check though. Just compare to the instructions.

I finally got access to a camera and took a bunch of pictures, but only one of them turned out clear enough to really see anything. It's linked at the bottom. Is there anything that jumps out at you?

This was my first real soldering project like this so I'm not sure if I got the right solder, I got silver bearing solder but it's really thin, so it made it hard to solder good joints without some solder running through to the other side of the board...you can kind of see it in the picture. Is that alright? And also, should the wires connecting to the jacks be wrapped around the leads? I just have the wires running straight through and then drenched in solder. I appreciate any feedback!!

Re: solder:

The silver solder is overkill, but it won't cause a problem. Solder is supposed to flow through the holes to the other side of the board, by the way. The amount on the top should just about equal the amount on the bottom when you're finished soldering a component lead.

It doesn't have to flow through the holes. On my Large Beaver some of the solder is on both sides, but a lot is also just on one side. Makes no difference.

If your tone changes in bypass, then you have a short somewhere....which is like the root of any other subsequent problems.
