Hi All,

Very strange problem with a Mouse build: If I plug in a stereo input such as the headphone jack of my phone to the input the pedal works as it should; bypass fine, click it on and the LED lights up on and all dials and selectors behave properly.

On the other hand if I plug in a mono input (a bassline synth), then the bypass is all that works; no LED and and no audio out the outputs.

This happens with the same cables and there is no issue with the output of the synth.

If I hot-switch the cable while running from the phone (rather than plugging it in when the switch is in bypass mode and then turning it on), then there is a quick fade out - initially the distortion works but both the sound and the LED fade out within around 1.5 seconds and it's back to dead until the phone is reconnected..

Can anyone think of an obvious cause here? I've tested connectivity with both a signal probe and a continuity tester on a multimetre for the ins/outs/switches. The fact it works normally with a stereo signal in is confusing the heck out of me?!

I don’t see how it could work with a stereo input when the pedal is designed for a mono input signal. The fact that the pedal uses a stereo input jack does not mean it works with a stereo signal. The Ring connection of the stereo input jack is used as a switch for the battery’s ground connection. This is why OEM FX pedals & BYOC pedals should have the plug removed from the input jack when not in use. Unplugging the input removes the Ring’s connection to ground thus conserving battery life.

Agreed.

That said I can't think of any other difference between the two sources and why it should make a difference?

I think we need to see some good photos (large, well-lit & well-focused) photos of your input, output and DC jack wiring.
