Hi there

Finally completed my byoc ts808 clone but once i had it built I believe it isn't functioning correctly.

I reflowed all the solder after taking these pictures and pit it back together and the issue still persists. I've checked several spots and made sure there's no continuity between capacitor ends etc, cleaned the board with rubbing alcohol.

It sounds like it is clipping really hard when the guitar volume is too high, turning it the guitar volume pre-pedal down makes it so the clipping is less apparent but there's still a huge drop in volume across the pedal. When the pedal isn't activated the volume isn't affected and sounds normal. The tone pot is responsive and creates more "hiss" when turned fully open as you can hear in :45 in the soundcloud link.

The drive and volume knob barely affect the difference in clipping sound. throughout the clip i'm variating the position of both those knobs.

curious how i should trouble shoot this as it's my first pedal-
I have a DMM available if anyone can point me in the right direction.

forgot to mention before putting it together for a second time i put electrical tape on the sides of the enclosure as well as the back of the tone pot to make sure nothing was grounding out that shouldn't.

I'd start by working through the process described here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=52188

was testing the resistors on my unit and 1 of the 510k resistor between the .22u tant and the 10u capacitor is shorted out...

can someone tell me how to test the ic and what the voltages/resistance should be?

You can't get a reliable resistance reading on a resistor installed in a circuit because of the possible parallel pathways. If you want to get a good measurement, lift one end of the resistor from the PCB.

Re: the op amp, pin 8 should be at the power source voltage, pin 4 should be at ground, and the other six should all be very close to 1/2 of your power source voltage.

There's an Imgur link to two photos in his first post, Keith.

That's good, but sometimes it takes two or three reflows to fix the problem joint(s). Also, that link I posted mentions a couple of additional things to do:

"Also, as you do this, be on the lookout for other solder-related issues, like excess solder "splash" on the board, or solder "bridging" between adjacent eyelets that aren't already connected with a trace on the PCB. Clean up these problems, if you see them. And as long as you're at it, if you have long component leads or wire ends protruding from any of your joints, clip those down the the top of the joint, since they could potentially cause shorts. And one other point: remove any IC's from their sockets before going through the reflow process, and replace them when you finish."

voodoo you were right the resistor was perfectly fine when i moved out out side of the circuit... i had to add a wire to get it back into the pcb but it's back to how it was

the voltages of the IC are as follows

1- 4.68
2 - 4.83
3 - 4.61
4 - 0
5 - 4.68
6 - 4.71
7 - 4.71
8 - 9.42

any ideas?

Well, all of those voltages are spot on, so the op amp is getting the correct voltages. I think I would try swapping in a different op amp to see if the one you have is defective. Any general purpose dual op amp will work in this service--4558, TL072, TL082, NE5532, OPA2134A, etc. Do you happen to have another pedal with one of those installed in a socket? If so, gently remove it and try it in this pedal.
