Build Your Own Clone Message Board

Hi everyone,

I bought this kit a while ago and never got around to build it until now.
As this is my first guitar pedal I was quite hesitant if I could do it, but I managed to finish it.
The pedal itself works fine. I can switch between the three distortion types and the boost is working perfectly. However, the overdrive makes some strange noises during long sustained notes (when the sound of the note is decaying), especially when the gain knob is turned up high (3 o clock and higher). It sounds like a buzz or swooshing. The boost works fine and does not make that noise.
Did I make a mistake?

Thx, the photo now worked. I am powering it with a 9V battery. I did not add the DC in yet (see image)

Could be an issue with one of the TL072 op amps. Try switching the left-most and center TL072's and see how the pedal behaves then.

thanks for the tip, but I have tried that before. I even used different TL072s I got from an electronics store, but they did not work either.

Just for clarification:
If you put the amp volume very low you can hear the buzz sound much clearer. It is as if there were a second signal somewhere coming through behind the main signal.
When I turn my Marshall up and on the full distortion channel, it is almost gone (it is not gone, you just can't hear it any more). However, when I play at low volumes on the clean channel the buzzing is always there and very clearly cutting through. It happens on all three switch positions and even if the gain is turned down to zero.

I have no idea what else to try.

I will record and post a sound sample tomorrow!

thanks for your help. The problem is solved. It turned out to be an IC problem, after all. Turns out both the original AND the one I bought at the electronics store were bad. Now it works perfectly!

I finished the housing and the input jacks today.


Next? I don't know yet. I'd really like that Li'l Analog Chorus (Chorus is still missing on my board)
Also the Octave Fuzz might be a candidate... Whichever is available first...?!


In general:
I'd really love an optical univibe, but there are almost no kits for that out there...
