I have the newer PCB, but I added the missing diodes, capacitors and switches.

The pedal functions, and I can hear a difference between the FAT - NORM - FULL toggles, but I'm not hearing a difference between the diode settings. I have the 2 germanium that came with the kit, and then 4 germanium and 2 silicon that I got online.

Is there something else I need to do to activate that switch? Or perhaps my ears are too damaged to tell the difference :)

Thanks!

There should be a fairly noticeable volume difference between the germanium diode single pair setting and the other two settings. Those other two settings are going to sound quite similar, though. Personally, I would replace the double germanium diode pair with a pair of red LEDs, which will give you a more distinctive sound (clearer and noticeably louder) for that setting. I can provide details on exactly how to do that if you're interested.

There's a trace on the top side of the PCB that you need to cut to "activate" the diode mod. It's between the middle lug of the diode toggle switch and the lug on the left ( if looking at the top side of the PCB). You can't miss it.

Use a razor blade or a box cutter or something sharp. Make two opposing angled parallel slices so that you cut out a thin V-shaped piece of trace. Or if you have a small file, you can just file through the trace. There's probably a lot of other ways to skin this cat. Ultimately, you just need to break the trace between the two eyelets.
