Build Your Own Clone Message Board

Hello, new to the forum but have been playing through a couple of Crown Jewels for years. Amazing pedal.

I recently ordered a custom-drilled/powder-coated/UV printed pedal enclosure from a hobby site for another pedal, and they did a great job. I’d like to have them do the same for an enclosure for a Crown Jewel. Would anyone have a diagram that shows the coordinates of all of the drilled holes in the enclosure? Ideally in relation to the center point of the enclosure, and ideally in millimeters, but I’ll take whatever I can get, and convert as required.

No. Sorry. We don't have any center point relative coordinates. We use an actual physical master template for drilling.

Re: those CJ's you've been playing--can you take one apart and trace out the enclosure outline and holes? Or measure the center points?

Hello voodoo, yes, that is what I did with the other pedal that I had the custom enclosure built for. It only had eight total holes, several centered on an axis of the enclosure, so it was easier to measure. With all the knobs and switches on the Crown Jewel, I was hoping to avoid measuring them all, and potentially introducing manual error.

I've gotten nice drilling layouts by putting the (empty) pedal enclosure on my scanner, along with a small ruler to make sure it scans actual size. Then I use a drawing program to find the center of each hole and mark it, along with the edges of the enclosure. Then I print, tape it onto a new enclosure, and drill away.

Hey all, thanks for the recommendations, figured I'd follow up. I actually ended up figuring out the the technique above on my own - we own a personal scanner that scans at actual size. I scanned the face of the Crown Jewel, then used Illustrator to draw circles in each hole of the scanned image. I used the center point of each hole, normalized axes (Illustrator reverses Y coordinates for whatever reason), then wrote down the normalized centerpoints. Worked perfectly - the holes are exactly in the right position. I then created my own design in Illustrator, then sent the info to a third party that drills, paints, and UV prints the enclosure. I went with a matte textured finish, and a font of my liking. Here's how it came out.

Looks fabulous! Well done!!!

Thanks guys. Here are a few pics of the final pedal - I changed out the LEDs for blue diffused, swapped in clear LED lenses, and cleaned up the text to align with the knobs and switches better.

I used Tayda for the enclosure fabrication, powder coating, and UV printing. They are awesome. Enclosures, including all work (minus the design of course), run about $15 plus shipping.

Tayda is great. They cater to hobbyists, so their minimum order is like $15 or something. I've done about a dozen printed enclosures for several different pedals, and their work has been impeccable every time.

Ping me if anyone plans to do a Crown Jewel enclosure, as there are some nuances - i.e. their 1590BB2 enclosure is slightly shorter than the standard CJ enclosure, so the jack hole drill points have to be very exact, or the parts won't fit.

Hey, if you're feeling ambitious, you might consider putting together a "how to" post in the DIY Discussion sub-forum, describing the basics of how to specify & purchase a drilled & finished enclosure from Tayda. I think there'd be quite a bit of interest in that around here.
