You've got a lot of different symptoms that all point to different things. Let's just focus on one thing at a time. Forget about everything else and just focus on the switching problem for now. Once that's resolved, we'll move on to something else.

Is the 12F609 still in its socket? What kind of power supply are you using?

Yes, have not removed it other than when I was reflowing. It's been in place for all the voltage tests.



Mentioned in my first post, power supply I have been testing the pedal's audio with is a Boss PSA120S, the power supply on my bench (where I have been testing voltages etc) is a Source Audio one that came with one of my One Series pedals. Don't know the name of it but it's 9v 400ma. Boss is 250ma.

I know it's probably not ideal to be jumping between two different power supplies but I have tested it in both places with both power supplies and results are the same, so I've just been leaving them set in place because it's more convenient.

Do the relays/LEDs behave the same regardless of the power supply?

Are there any other devices using the power supply?

What happens if you remove the 12F609?

What are the voltages at Q5, 4558, and TL072 with the 12F609 out of the socket?

No these are both isolated power supplies. They are both on power bars with other things plugged in but that cannot make a difference, they are isolated power bars.



Relays/switches/LEDs do nothing.

To clarify, all other chips were in their sockets, only the 12F609 was removed

I'm sorry I didn't clarify. Please take voltages of Q5, 4558, and TL072 again, this time with ALL the chips out of their sockets.

Use a jumper to connect pin 1 of the empty 12F609 to pin 2 and then pin 1 to pin 5. Please tell me what happens.

Sorry just to check, by 'see what happens' are you referring to voltages or relays/leds?

The latter. Making those connections on the MCU should trigger the relays--1 & 5 for relay 1 and 1 & 2 for relay 2. Take a look at the first page of the CJ schematic and you can see how the MCU is connected to the relay sections.

There are several layers involved in the switching.

1. The footswitches are connected to pins 4 and 7 of the MCU, which are set to inputs. When those pins recognize that the footswitch has shorted to ground, the switching routine begins.
2. Pins 5 and 2 are set to outputs and send 5V when they are "on".
3. The relay coils draw too much current for the MCU to handle, so the MCU is actually turning Q1 and Q2 on and off while simultaneously turning the LEDs on and off as well.
4. Q1 and Q2 supply the voltage to their respective relay coils.

By making those jumpers in the empty socket, you are skipping steps 1 and 2.
