 Post subject: Fuzz Component Theory

I'm new to pedal building/modifying, the BYOC kits have been great for getting my feet wet. I'm now looking into understanding the theory as to why certain components are used to get a certain sound/effect and why the wiring diagrams are layed out the way that they are. It seems like most experimentation is done by simply swapping parts but I'd like to understand the theory better, does anyone know of any good sources (just for fuzzes let's say)?
