+1. It's always valuable to be able to see what such defects look like in order to be able to recognize them in the future.

Sorry for the delay, long day at work. Here are some pix of the jack. I cannot see where the short is happening, but there's definitely continuity between the Ring and Sleeve.

Yeah, nothing visibly wrong. I suspect that the ring piece must not be centered or maybe is misshapen so that it's contacting the sleeve cylinder. Just a guess.
