Hello! I just finished the classic fuzz build and when I have it powered through the battery or my pedalboard, the led comes on but the signal cuts out. Power off-I get my clean signal. Power on- led works but no sound. I get some static when I turn the pots. I'm not very experienced at electronics but I'm positive that I followed the instructions and soldered well. I have pictures below.

Hi, welcome to the forum, and thanks for sharing photos.

I don't see any misplaced components. The majority of the time that we see your symptoms (bypass works, LED comes on, but no effect), the cause is a bad solder joint somewhere, and the solution is reflowing all your solder joints. This post has more details about that.

Thanks Sjaustin! I’ve reflowed all the joints from the opposite side of the board in these pics. Should I try it again?

Do you have access to a multimeter and know how to use one?

Reflowing worked but have a new issue.

Now I am getting a signal when the pedal is on and everything functions. My new issue is output level. It seems, at least the level and fuzz pots, have to be cranked all the way to create much fuzz and match the output of my clean signal. Volume is significantly decreased when the pedal is on and for it to sound fuzzy at all I have the fuzz pot turned all the way right.

This sounds like pretty normal behavior. The Fuzz Face just doesn't have a ton of output, and diming both knobs (or close) is the most common way to run it. So I think you've got it working as expected. If you're not sure, feel free to make a quick video and share it with us!

You can make a resistor swap to get more output if you want. The modification came up recently in this same subforum if you want to look for it.

As Scott said, the Classic Fuzz doesn't have a ton of output, but you should be able to get unity volume at much less than the full-on settings of the Level and Fuzz pots. Have you also played with the Bias pot to see if that helps? That latter pot changes the bias voltage on Q2. If you have a multimeter, try measuring the voltage on the collector of Q2 with the pot set to full clockwise. If you're not sure how to do that, we can provide instructions--it's quite simple. Because of component variability, especially in the transistors themselves, some pedals seem to work better by reducing the value of the R6 resistor (see labeled PCB map below). Report your Q2 collector voltage @ full CW here and we should be able to tell you if it's in the "sweet zone."

Also, just double-check your pot values to make sure that you didn't switch the positions of the B10K Bias and the A100K Level pots. We've seen that rather common mistake here a couple of times.
