Recently attempted my first pedal build. It works fine when its in bypass mode, but no input signal when the effect is on. I took the back off to check the circuit but I'm not quite sure what I need to be looking for.

It looks like your soldering needs to be redone. I would trim all your component leads to avoid a short. Then clean up the wires to the foot switch. You will need to reflow every joint and double check you don’t have any solder bridges(where solder connects two or more components that are not supposed to be connected)

Yeah. Your soldering is not good. Look at the solder joints on the 7 and 8 eyelets. You can probably pull the wire out of the input jack's ring terminal just by tugging on it. You're either not holding the iron to the joints long enough, or if you have an adjustable iron, you've got the heat set too low. And as mention, you definitely need to clean up the excess wire sticking out. You don't need to redo your wiring entirely, but next time, try not to strip so much off the ends. You have an uncomfortable amount of exposed wire.

Yeah, your soldering is very suspect looking. Typical for a novice builder, so nothing to be embarrassed about. You're not getting enough flow in your solder joints--you should see solder "peeking through" the eyelets on the component side of the board. If you have a temp-controlled soldering station, try turning up the heat to ~ 700F. If it's not temp controlled, be sure the tip is kept cleaned & tinned with fresh solder, and leave the tip in contact with the joint a bit longer (2 - 3 seconds). And as was mentioned, trim your component leads and wire ends off at the top of the solder joint. Also, avoid exposed wire sticking out of solder joints as these made lead to shorts.
