I can not get very much volume out of the germanium trannies. The Silicons work good besides the noise when the fuzz pot is maxed. Also in order to get unity gain the volume has to be set at 9 oclock or 3/4 up. with the germaniums full volume still results in very broken sound and I have played with the bias settings with the germaniums with no luck, I have also tried swapping the resistors around but get the same results. Could this be bad trannies?

That sounds like a FF circuit to me. That's what they tend to do. I don't even know how many fuzzes I actually own...eight maybe?

Read RG Keens most excellent article here:
http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/f ... fffram.htm

You can measure the devices you have to see if they fall into the desirable gain and leakage criteria he proposes. Then maybe decide for your self if something is really wrong.

Fuzz boxes can be nasty unpredictable beasts which is part of what makes them so much fun.
