Well ... does the octave portion dissapear leaving you with just fuzz?
Pick notes while you toggle the switch, you should be able to discern whether its working the way it should.
Make sure its wired correctly and you have the diode in there. You can post pictures if you want.

i think the octave up just isnt there, despite the position of the switch which doesnt seem to change the tone at all. ive got fuzz but no octave. sound clips ive heard had a very pronounced octave, almost ring modulation and im not getting that. everythings wired right as far as i can tell, i didnt miss the diode... i cant imagine the guitar and amp would make too much difference as to the noticability of the octave...but for what its worth ive tried it through a marshall 10 watt mg and an old ampeg b12x with a 60s single coil hagstrom 1.

yeesh, go off to a wedding and people have problems...
sounds like it could be a bad diode to me since i'm guessing you did all the tricks to make the octave stand out more when playing with it before coming here

I'd say first check for proper orientation of the diodes and any cold joints or solder bridges.
If you have a meter you can check both the switch and diodes.
