I want to use your FX router kit and retrofit it into a midi controlled loop switcher I am designing that is very similar to the voodoo labs GCX. My concern is that the transformer (42TM018) has an inadequate frequency range of 300Hz~3.4KHz.

I also noticed that you have integrated the MAX1044 IC, and if Im not mistaken, the reason for doing this is so you can operate the opamps in a push-pull mode so they will operate more efficiently...... does this drive the transformer differently to where it transfers lower frequencies? Is this correct? If so what frequencies can I expect

If not can you please tell me how the transformer will affect my tone

Thanks,
Carl

I can't see that BYOC actually specify which transformer they use in the parts list and instructions.

If it is the Mouser 42TM018 that does have a very poor frequency spec. It seems like it was designed for driving low impedance telephone lines since 300Hz to 3.4KHz is pretty much the bandwidth specified for the old analogue telephone systems. I think you would likely get a broader response running into 1M.

The isolation voltages specd. for that transformer seem barely adequate.

If the FX router actually sounded like an old telephone I'm sure some of the builders would have complained by now.

The FX router uses a charge pump and dual 9V rails to provide the extra headroom that might be needed for a router pedal. I don't think that will make any difference to the transformer bandwidth. However this does allow the design to dispense with coupling caps while keeping DC current through the transformer windings low and in that respect a dual rail design is advantageous.
