I'm trying to use loop 8 as an 'amp B' loop on my Super 8 Looper. I have a Fender Blackface '65 Super Reverb as 'amp A' and a Peavey Standard solid state amp as 'amp B'. The normal output on the looper goes to 'amp A'.

When I switch to loop 8 to change to the Peavey amp there is a massive pop. It happens every time. There is nothing plugged into the return on loop 8. All cables are good and loop 8 works normally when used for a pedal.

If I plug a shorted out plug into the return on loop 8 do you think that would solve it or damage something? Or, is the looper just not designed for this application?

Inserting a shorted plug into the Loop 8 return might help, if the pop you're hearing is coming from the Super Reverb. It won't damage anything in any case because you are just grounding the channel.

It could be that the Peavey has a leaky input cap and you are getting some voltage build up on the input. That would cause a very loud pop.

Thanks. I'll try the shorted plug and see what happens.
