Hi Guys,

Anybody out there got a diagram of how Gilmour wires his strat? it's been said he has had the ground re-wired....but how? and he has an extra switch that engages the neck pickup when the selector switch is in the bridge position only...is that possible?

Hope you guys can help!!

I've always though he just used his EMG DG-20 signature setup. It's anout $300 bucks for the prewired pickguard, but it's worth it. I've had one on my Strat for a little over 8 years now and I love it :)

Yeah he does have the EMG setup in his red strat but i'm trying to copy the BLACK strat with simple single coils.

Info out there claims the neck-on switch only works in position 5, is this right? i would have thought it would work in all positions?

don't know if this is how gilmour does it but here at http://www.kinman.com/html/toneWorkshop ... Guitar.htm there is a mention on how to get 7 + sounds from a strat without adding in any new switches. it is down the page a bit and would give you your neck + bridge pickup combo

Either Guitar Player or Guitar World recently did an article on Gilmour's black strat. IIRC the neck and middle pickups are stock and the bridge pickup is a Duncan SSL-1. The selector switch is a 3-way with an added toggle switch for engaging the neck and bridge pickups together. The guitar is fully shielded with copper foil and the pots were all connected directly to the output jack. The trem arm was cut down to 4.5" in length.

Here's a close up of the toggle switch. There was no mention as to how it was wired though. A trip to GuitarElectronics.com might be able to help you with that.

Here's good article from GuitarNuts.com on shielding a Strat. I tried it and it works very well.

I don't know about Gilmour's setup exactly but this http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/WDUSSS5L1204 is how I have my strat wired so that I can turn the bridge pickup on at any time with a push-pull pot, giving me 7 sounds and it looks exactly the same.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!!

Good news is i finally got my hands on a book all about Gilmours Black Strat! with regards to descriptions in the book it's still pretty vague, merely stating what i have already said before BUT now i have a photo of Gilmours electronics!! and another BUT i still can't quite make out what is happening!! please help!! here is the image below.

It's clear that the grounding is a bit different and that he has a single throw switch but i can't quite make out what is happening with the wires around the selector switch and neck-on switch....can any of you guys work it out?

i hope so!!

i've already had a go at it and i can get it to work but when my 'neck-on' switch is on it comes on in all positions! and as far as the book is concerned and various other sources Gilmours 'Neck-on" switch only works in position-5

please help!!

thanks all!!

Open it in Photoshop, adjust the levels, taking the mids right down, you'll see exactly where the wires go ...

I'd post the pic, but I don't own the image ... :(

well had a quick mess in photoshop, and i've added markings showing where it gets confusing!! it's looks like the selector switch lug for the 'middle' pickup has 2 wire going from it?

i have attempted exactly what i see in the picture and it doesn't work...the neck is ALWAYS on....!!

anybody fancy verifying a circuit and drawing a schematic?
