I've known that speakers have a major impact on your rig, but this is nuts. As some of you know, I recently procured a Mesa Mark V head and a 2x12" Avatar cab with a pair of Vintage 30s. I really like the whole thing, but was not totally satisfied with the bottom end I was getting. I felt that it needed to be a bit fatter sounding. As it so happens, I have a well broken in Ceramic Weber Blue Dog, 50watt in my Peavey Classic 30. I am thinking of selling the 30, so I decided to pull the blue dog and take one of the vintage 30s that was in the avatar cab out. The minute I plugged back in, it was night and day. The combo of the Vintage 30 and Blue Dog are dynamic. The Blue dog has a big bottom and bell top, the Vintage 30 is all mids. Just a profound difference in tone. For now I will put the old Blue Marvel back in the Classic 30 and keep the Vintage 30 in my practice amp.
I knew the change in one speaker from a 2x12" would make a little difference, I can't believe it was so drastic.
