So because I love to fiddle around with stuff and I'm always looking for good, or at least interesting tone, I pulled the trigger on Universal Audio's new Tweed 55 Deluxe emulation. It's a spectacular emulation of an iconic amp, doing exactly what I love and hate about the 5e3. The hate part is about flubby-farty bass and darkness, the love part is the awesome tone otherwise. If you have their hardware, this is a great buy (even though it *is* a resource hog).

Normally I wouldn't post about something like this, even as good as it is, but I happened to stumble onto something truly great sounding: Izoptope's Trash 2 (one of the Tube presets) into the UA Deluxe emulation on a clean setting sounds exactly like what I have been looking for. A little space by an EMT-140 UA reverb plugin and oh my goodness.

Just goes to show what a little farting around can do for you and not to give up on emulation. It can sound really good!

If you're not afraid to tweak there are lots of great tones from modellers

mmarsh, do you have an UAD-2 card or an interface?
I can recommend the Engl amps as well, sounds great with my UAD-2 card

Yes, I do and I have the Engl vintage model as well as a Marshall or two. That's how I got he Deluxe model as well. They are good emulations but they do take a lot of dsp!
