Here's my Elliot Easton Cadillac Green Metallic Gretsch (Synchromatic).

I'm not a big fan of gold hardware, but I'm a huge fan of Elliot Easton and Gretsch, so of course I had to have this.. it's about 15 years old now.

I've done a bunch of mods already (see photo above), but I'm on the fence about one more..

Thinking about adding a gold Penguin-style armrest. Initial reaction was it was unnecessary and a bit tacky looking, but now I'm thinking maybe I should go for a none-more-gold look. Ya know, Kla$$y (with two dollar signs and a K) So the look would be similar to this:

What do you guys think? I don't care about resale value or anything.

I think that would be the shoes that really tie it all together.

To my eyes, the roller bridge looks bulky, or rather heavyweight, compared to the look of the rest of the instrument.

Adding a gold armrest as shown would fill in an empty spot in the symmetry, but the one you show there doesn't look like it was made to fit in with anything else, other than the gold color. Maybe if it had green plastic inlay in the armrest that looked like it went with the knobs, it could look very custom indeed. Of course, it would depend on the particular implementation. However, it might still look like it has a somewhat overly-thick, muscular bridge.

Okay, there you have one more opinion. Now you know why people don't ask me about things like that! :D

I think an armrest would look real nice on your guitar. I think the green and gold really compliment each other and adding that little bit extra will will just top things off nicely

I'm a soft "no" on this one, but the more important question is why do you not have a Compton bridge on that guitar yet?

Funny you should mention that- I actually put an even MORE bulky roller bridge on since this photo was taken    This one is my new favorite roller bridge, as it's fully adjustable for intonation, is locking like a TonePros, AND feels really good when palm muting..

 8)

Wow, for only $25, that's worth a try on my Gretsch G5420T, which doesn't come with a roller bridge.

The Comptons are pricier but have great resale value if you're not satisfied. Just sayin' That said, let me know how this one works on the 5420… I'm always interested in exploring other ideas.

My arm has never felt more rested  I don't regret it, it looks pretty sharp and just feels more personalized now.

Looks cool! Would look even cooler with a little decal on that arm rest that says "POWERPOPGUY!!!"
