PRS makes a Strat for John Mayer?? Nothing Mayer does really surprises me, but I'm really disappointed in Paul Reed Smith. His answer should have been, "You want a custom Strat? Talk to Fender...."

Saw that as well. I’m a fan of both Strats and PRS’s but I don’t get this at all. It’s a good sounding guitar from the demo or two I’ve heard, but so are Fenders :) I still wonder what Fender (and Two-Rock) did to piss Mayer off lol.

That thing is getting lots of hate across a lot of forums.

The disappointment is even more disappointing in that PRS doesn't need the money nor the promotion to do this kind of thing. It's not like it's a fledgling company who could use any pub etc.. At least I could get that angle if that was the case. Shame on Mayer for even asking him but then like you alluded to, Mayer has no shame really and has a lot of things to be ashamed of, in my opinion of course :)

I really wonder if this was anything more than John Mayer asking PRS to do it and PRS agreeing. Most guitar companies would jump at the chance to make a Mayer signature model, no matter what configuration he asked for. There aren't a ton of modern guitar heroes; Mayer has to at least be in the top 10 with regards to visibility.

I am curious how well it will sell. I didn't really expect much initially, but the local PRS dealer (small store) pre-ordered something like 12 of them and 5-6 are presold. I think that's more pre-sold that the popular McCarty 594. We'll see if sales hold up or if their if it just a small, initial surge. I have a friend who is an irrational Mayer fanboy and he wants one bad. I'm not much of a 7.25" radius guy, so I don't expect it to be for me, but I'll definitely play one when they arrive in the store.
