hey all, i just won this amp on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1 anybody have any info on this? i have no idea if it even works but if it doesnt im gonna get my pops to help me rebuild it. i was gonna break down and buy a valve jr. last night till i came across this amp. this has history and is way cooler imo. any idea on a date it was made? anything that i should look out for before plugging it in for the first time? anyone have any links to a safety coarse for working on tube amps, dont wanna fry myself. i wasnt gonna buy a project amp like this but if i dont just dive right in i'll never learn how to do it. besides i dont have a wife or kids so if i fry myself no big deal. :D im so happy, i think this thing looks bitchin. if i plug it in and it works, im gonna leave it just the way it is. if it doesnt, im gonna get my hands dirty.

You might try asking over at Plexi Palace. Someone there might be able to tell you more about the amp. Who knows. You may have stumbled onto an old gem. Good luck!

well i got it and plugged it in and it didnt work. one of the tubes was not lit up so i started playing around with the amp. turns out the tubes were in the wrong spots. i swapped them around and it works like a charm. i just have to put in a three prong cord and a couple of other mods. i think i might want to get new tubes for it, dont know yet. the sound is totally clean. the only break up i get is from the speaker when i turn the volume to the max. if i changed the tubes could i get some distortion out of this thing? the stock jenson alnico takes alot off power to push it. i hooked the amp up to my cab and it is actually pretty damn loud. i never would have guessed that five tube watts would be that loud. i got her all cleaned up and looking pretty. i restretched the grill cloth and tightened up the tubes. seems to work great but im wondering if she needs a new set of tubes. the ones that are in there seem really old. if i needed new tubes what would be some warning signs? ill post some picks up when i get some free time, i need some sugg. on some cheap mods.

you got an absolutely amazing deal on that amp!

i don't think changing the tubes will give you more breakup. the design looks pretty close to a fender champ and the only way to get those dirty is by cranking them. it'd be kind of a shame to mod such a great little old amp. it should respond to pedals really well though. a screamer or a rat should get you great tones through this!

and how awesome is that schematic?? nice score!

Sweet little class 'A' amp. Much better mojo than the Epi. Looks mid-late 50's. Nice score, and a great price.
