There’s pedals out there that have FET. I do own a pedal with a FET but I’m not sure how to describe the sound.

Do you think the FET sound is leaning towards the tube sound?

yeah, perhaps a little more "tubey" than BJT or op-amp drive w/ diode clipping. That's a pretty subjective thing, though, so your mileage may vary.

The biggest advantage IMO is that FETs have extremely high input impedance (Z). This prevents pickup loading and can really help the top end bloom. That's part of the reason most drive pedals use op-amps with a FET input stage, like the TL072. This is helpful when designing a circuit, because the nearly infinite Z of the FET allows you to set the circuit's input impedance by adjusting the bias resistors. For example, check out the ZVex SHO circuit. Very large resistor values combined with the FET's high Z give a very high overall impedance to the circuit, producing tons of chimey high end. Really helps your pickups sound their best. You might find yourself rolling off your tone knob once you hear the true full range of your pups.

Ok, so in other words, it can improve the higher frequency tones

yep. impedance of the first thing in the chain after your pickups can make a huge difference in tone. Like taking the blanket off your amp.

I’ll probaby then get the BYOC Green Pony pedal and do the FA 1 FET mod that they offer as an option
