Just wondering if anyone has played one of the newer Strat Elites?

I have a 90 Strat Plus with Lace pickups, and have been wanting to see how the newer elites fair. Unfortunately they don't have any to compare around here.

I have heard mixed reviews on the noiseless pickups.

I haven’t played one of the new ones, but I did have one of the previous generation (with the Gen3 pickups I believe). The pickups were pretty good, nothing magical but definitely usable and “Stratty” sounding. What really stood out for me was the compound radius neck. It’s a subtle difference, but you find your hands don’t get as tired.

Beauty. I love that pearl finish. What do you think, so far?

That’s a nice looking strat.

It plays really well and I like the way the neck changes as you move up the fretboard.

I haven't had much time to play around with the S-1 switch yet, but the color is very nice, the effect is subtle until you look at it closely in the light.

I am really enjoying it so far.

What is the S-1 switch set up to do in that model? The switch does different things in different Fender models.

American Elite Stratocaster

As has been the case for decades, the five-way selector of the Stratocaster offers a slew of wiring configutations. But with the S-1 switch, there is a new world of options. Here is the configuration when the S-1 switch is off:

Position one: bridge pickup only

Position two: bridge and middle pickups wired in parallel

Position three: middle pickup only

Position four: middle and neck pickups wired in parallel

Position five: neck pickup only

When you engage the S-1 switch on the American Elite Strat, you have even more tone alternatives that you don't get to hear every day.

Position one: all three pickups wired in series

Position two: bridge and middle pickups wired in series

Position three: middle and neck pickups wired in series

Position four: bridge and neck pickups wired out of phase, with a special tone capacitor

Position five: bridge and middle pickups wired in series and out of phase, in parallel with neck pickup

Those sound like fun and useful possibilities.

+1! I've wired up Strats for those three series combos, and am particularly fond of the bridge-middle series combo. I call it "super-quack."

The two out-of-phase combos sound interesting, as well, though I expect they're of more limited usefulness. Probably good for funk, though.

I love quack so super quack can only be better.

Out of phase can give you that hollow blues tone and Brian May used it a LOT too. Great tone pallet. Wish I had that option on one of my guitars

Loving it so far but I actually think the gold Lace sensors have more sustain and are bell like in tone in comparison.
