I have a lower line single cutaway Martin (circa '05) that I hate. Sounds thin and shitty acoustically. Was wanting something for recording and came across a Vintage Sigma DR-41, made in Japan (80's) so I did some research. Nobody sells the old ones...very coveted and revered. Lost the auction, it sold for 710.00. Found one made in Korea (probably late 90's early 2000's)* in Franklin Tennessee, but it was local pickup only. Well, got someone to go to dudes house on Wed to pick it up and ship it. Psyched.

Anyone ever own one? Thoughts?

Thanks
:D

*Korean Sigma's were made from '84 - '94

Well,
Dude (Dave) who picked up and shipped the guitar for me was a luthier. Got the guitar, and I hate it. Think I have it sold locally for 650.00 which would be ideal.
so...Got to talking with Dave about his builds, and he has a D28 almost done..instead of rosewood sides and back it's cherry, with ebony finger board, mahogany neck, spruce top, abalone all over the place, but tastefully done....
he's gonna pimp it out for me..."GeekMacDaddy" on the headstock...Gonna buy it and it might be done by the end of August. Dave is the childhood friend of a friend, so I'm getting BRO pricing. Super Bro pricing. Very exciting as I've never owned a nice acoustic before.

Thanks guys. Some gear related stories to go with. Got me some stuff, including 2 golden age Comp54's. Ordered the 3 Carnhill transformers for each to upgrade. The 2nd install went smooth, but the first was a learning experience. Had to de-solder and re orient the line and mic transformers and pulled up solder pads. Luckily Bo Medin from Golden Age was very helpful and sent me the schematic for the input section, and I hand wired the pin connections. Working! Had to have a special mic to record this, so I built this to go with;

Nice! I use my LDC from micparts.com all the time. I want to build a SDC sometime, but the truth is I don't really need it.

I have the T-47. I really like it, but I confess my ears probably aren't good enough to really know whether it's as good as the ad copy claims.

Cool...hell with the ad copy. You make good recordings w/it?

All my vocals on this demo album were double tracked with the T-47 and an SM57. I think it turned out pretty solid. Mostly it's just fun to make music with something you built—which is the reason we're all here, right?

(OK, thread jack over!)

Nothing like it!!!! I'm using a home made U87 and KM84...for bass, I built a tube direct box from a Jensen schematic. Sounds incredible. Quiet too.

Vocals on your recording sound nice. I like the music too. Wonder what the mic sounds like on it's own...

So I HAD to have a custom logo. Won't see the guitar till Oct. Dammit. Here's a clip of my shite Martin with the new KM84 clone. Kinda pleased with the mic. The Martin sounds thin. The mic is true :P

What model Martin is it, Jeff? Sure doesn't have the bottom end I associate with a Martin dreadnaught.

No it does NOT. I describe it as a paper banjo. It's a DC-1E (DC-Doesn't Count, 1E- if you don't spend in Excess of 1Grand)

So, my custom logo is taking longer than expected. Won't see the guitar till Oct. That one will have big bottom.

That's the sound! You must be super excited.

PS: When you get it in your hands and are ready to show us the finished video, make sure you turn the phone sideways so we can see the whole thing!
