Tayda is offering UV printing https://www.taydaelectronics.com/hardwa ... rvice.html

I'm having a bit of a time following their instructions. Did get the Roland swatch imported to illustrator. Do we have any experts on hand?

Cool! 8) Looks like an entrepreneurial opportunity for some industrious forumite with Adobe Illustrator to "vectorize" pedal graphics for those of us with the desire to use this service but without the capability to submit our graphics in the required format! Anybody interested??

Not just about vectorizing. It's a big pain in the ass.

Keep in mind that I am unburdened by any knowledge of what I'm actually asking for!

I'm not a graphics expert, but there are 2 Open Source(free) packages, GIMP and Inkscape that can work in the vectorized world. (Inkscape being preferred for what you want to do, but you should probably be able to port from one to the other) They are supported under Windows 10 and Linux operating systems. XInkPlus is available for Apple. I've used them in the past (Band Posters), but not for what you are doing. Since they are free packages they have online support and you probably can find additional support in online forums. Both packages can Import, Save and Export files in a variety of formats. Here is a quick link, I found in Google.

https://blog.wplauncher.com/how-to-vectorize-an-image-in-inkscape/

If you have Visio for Windows that should also work. This is not a cheap product and if you need to buy something it should be the Adobe Illustrator package which will handle "fancy" graphics better.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes. :D

What else beyond vectorizing are you finding needs to be done, Jeff?

Sorry, I believe I misread your initial post. You have Illustrator and you need to see how that works with the directions on Tayda's website, correct. Let me read thru it and see if I can make sense of it.

I tried it to see. Got it the other day. It's nice. I thought the process was fairly easy.

I suppose if you're brand new to Illustrator, it can be confusing. White is the only weird color. Changing to vectors is simple. Especially if it's text. Just watch a youtube tutorial.

The drilling plot is a little weird too with absolute zero being the center. Maybe not. I think the bottom left corner makes more sense, but maybe that's just my Western thinking. It's difficult to measure from the "center".

I can understand why you'd use the centre as the origin of the coordinate system when dealing with a machine - the centre point will be the same even if the rounding of the edges or the angle on the sides changes, as long as it's consistent all the way around, whereas which point you call the bottom left could change based on those details... but yes, for us humans, trying to measure from the centre is a massive pain.

Wow, no minimums? Game-changer  I have lots of Illustrator experience, so I'll be giving this a try very soon.

I looked into using open source software(free) Inkscape to create template and artwork for Tayada. I was not able to import the Roland swatch in the format I needed to, To do this successfully in Inkscape you need to convert Roland's swatch file .ai into a .gpl format. I haven't seen a program to do this.

Here is maybe a cheaper way to use Inkscape (Free) and Affinity designer (50.00) and addresses Tayda and pedal printing.

https://www.pachydermpedals.com/tutorials/2020-12-27-angry-charles-tutorial/

Here is the preceding dialog forum.

https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/tayda-uv-printing.4245/

Looks like it's doable, I understand no causal Illustrator user wants to pay 20.00/per month with yearly commitment unless they are doing a lot of work. I was looking at some of the pedals printed by Tayda, nice stuff!!!

Okay, I've fired off my first design to Tayda, so I'll keep you posted on the results 8)

For those of you using Illustrator on a PC, I can maybe save you a little confusion regarding the Roland Versaworks Swatches file import:

You'll need to download that file from Tayda and copy or drag it into the following folder location on your computer (assuming your Illustrator installation matches mine):
C: > Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Illustrator > Presets > en_US > Swatches

Now open Illustrator, and go to Illustrator's 'Windows' menu, and choose the "Swatches" panel.
In the top-right options menu, select 'Open Swatch Library' --> 'Other Library'
Navigate to the same place above where you copied the file, and choose 'RolandVersaWorks'

That's it! Now it's just a matter of creating your artwork on three layers: Varnish (optional), Color and White (optional). Only use the 'RDG White' swatch for the white layer, and 'RDG_Gloss' swatch for the varnish layer.

I can't help with Inkscape or Mac issues, but hope that helps a few of you.. Cheers!

With Eric's (powerpopguy, thank you Eric) help, I have my order in as well. Much more complex than just black writing. "High" hopes ;)

Overall, I'm pleased. Looks better in person than this photo... a bit "liny" but I can live with it.
