Anyone else get a personal call from Steve Daniels?

Guess that explains the free bag of NOS caps in the order I received yesterday...

Steve gave me a call too. This isn't sad news though. Steve is retiring after 20 years of running a successful business. Mazel Tov!

Just too bad there wasn't someone to take over his business rather than closing up shop. Bought quite a bit of stuff from Steve over the years, and IMO, he was the best source for germanium transistors for Rangemasters and Fuzz Faces.

Same. Much respect for him, however he wants to leave his business. But dang—they are the only place to get certain items. Although the germanium transistors were likely done. They just sold a bunch of limited batches a few weeks back, and it seemed pretty clear they were not expecting to get any more sets. Still… lots of other niche stuff you can get there. If the shop does not go on in some form, it will be a big loss for our hobbyist community.

Maybe Lawrence could buy the place! Putting LMS and SBE together would be a total dream scenario!

Wow, congrats to Steve for retiring, but man there were so many times I ordered from Smallbear just for one or two specialty parts I couldn't find anywhere else

Sad news. I am just getting started building pedals and placed my first order with Small Bear a few days ago. I was really looking forward to doing my business with him. Was very impressed with the selection and prices. He had by far the best price on the Xytronic LF-389D Soldering Station I ordered. I wish him the best of luck in his retirement.

Oh no, just started building pedals again... This makes me sad, but Steve has earned this!

Something odd...
I'm restoring a '71 Bassman and needed some stuff from this vendor https://amprepairparts.com/ who also calls themselves "studio sound repair". The header on their receipt email said "Small Bear Electronics". Either they have an identity crisis, or they are in transition.

Small Bear announced an acquisition (by synthCube) last week. Wonder if there's a connection there?

This is good news or potential good news anyway. Hopefully Steve got a nice little sum to aid in his retirement. I've ordered more than just a few parts from him and was bummed.

Hi All,

Looks like someone is buying Small Bear. Got this off of Aion FX.

Certainly hope this works out well, but I'll be surprised if they provide the same level of personalized, go-the-extra-mile service that Steve & his team always did. Guess we'll see--I'll be happy to be wrong!

I am not interested in synth stuff, but I got the impression that SynthCube is like the Small Bear of that world. Fingers crossed!

I was out of the loop after closing but it appears it has reopened? Anyone had any experience with them?

They didn't close, per se. Smallbear was sold. Not sure to whom, but I still use them as a back up. No problems.
