Well, I don't have very many rules in life, but one of them is this: when I'm stuck in a room by myself for ten days due to a once-in-a-century pandemic, I buy myself a new guitar*.

I had a fever, and the only prescription was this weird Gretsch solidbody with a P90 and a Broad'Tron humbucker. This from their Streamliner series, which is their third tier, below the Proline MIJ guitars and the Electromatic MIK guitars. For a third tier guitar, I am shocked at how good this thing plays and sounds. It was $329 out the door, brand new (granted, I got a solid deal on it using this tip). I have to say it beats the pants off any similarly priced Squier or Epiphone.

Tuning stability is great; I might not even replace the nut or bridge on this guitar. I am going to replace the pots and add a treble bleed, but other than that, it's ready to rock out of the box. The pickups are such a fun and unusual combination, and it's a really lovely looking instrument, too. I'm pretty psyched about it. Gretsch is just knocking it out of the park!

* After selling a different guitar, in accordance with one of life's other rules

Dig it! Some of those budget Gretsch/Electromatics are really decent. Glad you like it! Honestly, I'd buy a Gretsch over an Epiphone or similar just for the more comfortable neck and the master volume on the lower bout. That master down there is the best placement ever :)

No joke. I had lucky timing in addition to my Reverb tip. The list price on these went from $349 to $399 as of Jan. 1, but the seller hadn't updated their listing yet, and they had bought it at the old wholesale price. I still think $399 (+ tax and shipping) is a great price for this guitar, but yeah… I feel like I should be wearing a Hamburgler mask.

I love this post so much. :D 8) What even is that guitar!? I think it's a beaut. Glad you got a good one - I've had my hands on a few streamliners that came through the shop needing work and was not impressed.

I played one of these at guitar center a couple of days ago. The feel of the guitar and finish were actually pretty great. The bridge pickup wasn't my favorite but the P90 was decent. I don't have a lot of experience with Filtertron style pickups so I don't know if the style of pickup wasn't to my liking or just this version. It just sounded too thin for my taste. Other than that, it was a pretty good deal.

Yeah, the fairly consistent knock on this guitar is that bridge pickup. People who aren't used to Filtertron style pickups don't like it because it doesn't sound like a humbucker, and people who love Gretsch don't like it because it doesn't sound like a vintage Filtertron. I agree it's pretty thin. Most people are drawn to the guitar for the neck pickup sound, but IMO the middle position sounds pretty awesome too, because the pickups tend to balance each other out. Also, with all 'Tron style pickups, adjusting the pole pieces makes a huge difference.
