resurrecting a Carvin " kit" bass with a 5 string Warmoth neck. Bass came with a Badass V bridge but it must have had several previous bridges & was even a string through at some point, so it had been screwed more times than my high school slutheart.
It was pretty easy to cut the dowel tops flat BEFORE inserting into holes, to glue flush & minimize post-glue-up sanding level; Rather than saw a ton of hardwood in a miter box , or etc, I chucked the dowels in the drill press and cut off the ends dragging a thin 'razor blade" saw against the spinning dowel, followed by a couple seconds of sandpaper on a bit of flat scrap.
Just had to lay the saw on it a few seconds and dowel end was level enough to hammer in
I can see the gorilla in the midsts of the picture here , earning this bass the name - The Greatful Ape
