Saddened to hear about BYOC closing its doors. :(
I fondly remember when DIY pedal building and BYOC were at its peak. Great times. Learned a lot and thanks to Keith and his kits, made some great pedals, tones, and friends.

I have to say that had I not found this place back in 2011 it is highly possible I would have not built a single pedal in my life which in turn means I would have not built any amps, or a guitar or...or...or... It lit a fuse I didn't know I had and since that time and through building pedals it led me to so many real musicians (unlike myself) and some friendships that again I would not have had. So how does one put into words the thanks I have? All I can say is thanks so much to Keith and the staff and all the moderators here as well. This is/was one hell of a cool place to hang and especially back in the day when it was going like gangbusters.

No idea if the forum will stay up and or for how long but it's been a real pleasure to have gotten to know to all the dudes (don't recall any chicks) here as I had many great convos. I wish everyone well.

Geez, sounds like an obituary :|

Gutting to hear if that's the case. I may not build pedals any more, but a BYOC kit was what got me back interested in electronics (and building pedals for a while).

Serious bummer. I'm actually not on the email list, so this is the first I'm hearing of this. :(

Thanks for everything, Keith and BYOC!

No doubt, the forum has been a wonderful aspect of this enterprise, and will be missed when it is gone.

I hope Keith & co. have something great to move on to.

This is shocking to me. In search of a Germanium fuzz is what led me to BYOC in 2006. Building my first pedal started me on my pedal building addiction that many years ago. I now have built around 55 pedals at last count, some of my own design. The forum here has been fantastic. I am really sorry to see BYOC go. I wonder if the availability of cheap Chinese knockoffs helped the demise of the company.

I guess some people got an email about it, but I never did.

Say it ain't so!

Been here since 2007 myself and I have been a regular since. I have learned a lot from this place and it will be missed by many!

Sure does suck that it's happening, plenty of fond memories associated with this place.

Hopefully the forum sticks around.

It's always been a great place to bounce ideas and questions off of other folks.

Amen to that.

WTF? This has been a heartbreaking month. Really didn't need to hear this.

I saw the news and couldn't believe it. I'm thankful for BYOC and this community. I learned almost everything from this forum. I still have some original kits that I haven't built yet from way way back… I better grab the PDFs just in case I have time to build them one day.

That's a bummer. Wish the best to Keith and crew. I met a lot of folks here and learned so much over the years. Like others have said, this place was a kickstarter for moving on to other things like amps and hi-fi. It's been awesome!

Extremely sad to hear.. I've met so many wonderful people here, and this is where I got my start on the pedal building/electronics journey which has been a sizable chunk of my life story for the past 15 years or so. Thank you Keith et al, thank you to all the fine forum folks here for all the many great memories. I'll never forget things like PIFmas, which brought so much joy to the holidays.

Yes! And its midyear cousin, the traveling box of PIFs. I still use a guitar strap I got in that box. Great memories.

Sad to hear indeed. Although I haven’t been around much the past few years, and rarely build pedals anymore, it’s been an honor to have met all of you guys.

It's been ages since I posted on here, Apologies for that. In all honesty BYOC was instrumental to me getting my company off of the ground, It was this company (BYOC) , this forum and everything about it that got me enthused beyond measure for pedal building. ThorpyFx have now shipped Over 25000 worldwide and I can say (hand on heart) that it wouldn't have happened without this fine forum, Keith and the team. Im so sorry to hear BYOC is closing down, whenever I've been asked about the place to start with DIY builds i always mentioned BYOC as the first port of call.

Thank you for the inspiration, thank you for being an awesome company and above all thanks for being an awesome community.

all the best, Thorpy

Hey hey Thorpey! Long time no see. Glad to see your business is doing well, it’s such a crowded market. I love your uniqueness (is that a word?). Yeah this place gave a lot of us our started, crazy.

Hey Thorpy, I second JL's sentiment. Very glad you are humming along in the pedal biz.

Damn! I've been inactive for a few years, restoring my 68 Porsche 912 kept me so occupied that I barely even picked up a guitar, much less a soldering iron (although I did put my soldering skills to use on the wiring loom!).

So a few days ago I got back on the BYOC site and noticed that the 5-knob compressor was in stock and figured I'd jump back in. I just checked my order and noticed it hadn't shipped yet so I googled BYOC and found the thread on the Gear Page that had this bad news. Now I'm depressed.

Had/Have a lot of good internet friends that I met on this board. Hopefully there will be a way to keep all this tribal knowledge alive?

Many thanks to Keith and the crew. I built my amp and about a dozen pedals here. All quality stuff and great instructions.

You will be missed.

-Mike
