I went out yesterday, Sep. 1 and had an awesome time with my Dad and his friends from work. Been going out there for the last 15 years, starting when I was 12 witth these particular guys.
Shot like crap, my shoulder is sore but I have a fridge full of dove and the grill will be firing up in a couple of hours!

any other bird hunters in the room?

You'd probably have to kill quite a few doves to feed a family eh? In Northern Ontario we hunt duckes and Partridge. I just moved to a pretty rural area where there is lots of hunting. I don't hunt but i may just pick it up for fun.

i'm with you there SugarBear, and isn't the dove meant to be the symbol of peace? should you really go around shooting them?

yes dove have a season

the legal limit is 12 a day in the region of Texas I hunt in.
I would not call dove a main course meal or anything, but wrap them in bacon and a slice of Jalapeno, plus a wedge of lemon and they make a great appetizer.

did not think that there were many hunters in here either, but at least i am not getting villified like I would over at HC. apparently some people do not seem to realize that meat comes from animals, which have to be killed....

I shoot pigeons when I'm board, wouldn't dare eat them though.

I used to do actual hunting -- pheasant, grouse, duck, but haven't for a few years.
Actually dove hunting sounds fun, you use a .22 I assume? Anything bigger and there wouldn't be anything left of the bird

Well, actually, my remark was more about the simple fact that they poop on my lawn, and I throw rocks at them all the time. Is that considered hunting?

20 gauge shotgun.

The only way you could hit one with a .22 is if it was sitting on a power line, fence row, or trees... which is rather illegal.
There is quite a bit left of the bird, in fact all of it if you shoot from around 20 yards. Might have a couple of pellets in the breast, but they pop out easily when you clean the birds.

Here we hunt duck, pheasant and partridge. The good stuff is deer and if your lucky, moose.

I just shoot clay pigeons in my back yard. I've been meaning to get my pheasant license, but have been to busy to take the hunter's safety course. It won't happen this year. Maybe next year.

you are able to purchase licenses for individual seasons in WA?
Interesting.
Fortunately I do enough fishing in the spring to justify the cost of that license, but I get screwed on the hunting.. I only go out to shot dove maybe three-four times a season, and I will go out for duck maybe four times. Had enough of deer hunting to last me a lifetime.

Hunting, wraping, slicing, baking, wedging....That sounds alot like work. I'll just wait until they make Dove flavored Doritos.

You need an "upland game" license for quail, pheasant, chukkar, dove, ect. I think this also includes rabbit, squirrel, and other small game, but you may need a seperate license for those. You need "migratory bird" for duck and geese. Fishing licenses are a seperate thing here too. Fishing rules are really F'd up in WA state. Check out the manual online. You can only pull certain species out of certain rivers and only use certain bait or lures in certain places. You have to know exactly which river you're on at all times and you have to carry around the manual because there's no way you can remember all the rules. And you need a "big game" license for Mule Deer, Bear, Elk, Moose, ect. And if you were born after 1972, you need to take a lot of BS classes.

That's why I just shoot traps.

Clay pigeons are the best pigeons.
