Necro bump. Plus, aged porter in celebration of being 40.
Boulevard Brewing's Bully! Porter. I had a couple when a friend brought over a 4 pack in October of '12. Saved one in the cellar. 'Best by 03/29/13'. Nice :). Definitely mellowed over time but without any added complexity. For me this is disappointing. I may have to uncellar another beer this evening!

I had their imperial stout recently and was really let down.

Totally agree with your subsequent plan of attack, though!

I may have to uncellar a few soon as well. To make sure they're still ok, right?

Ok the beer isn't particularly special. It's a decent single IPA but....the VP of Engineering just came by my desk and said 'IPA or porter?' So I had to post it.

Yes, and yes.

How was the pilsner? Sometimes I think I'm the only one who likes pilsner...I feel like an entire style of beer gets a bad rap because of high volume American beer makers who sell 'pilsner'...

Well, it would probably be a hell of a commute to where you work, but BEER! Lol

Brooklyn Pilsner is pretty good, but it used to be better when they actually made it in Brooklyn. Now it's made in Utica, I think. Still pretty damn good though.

And you are not the only one who likes pilsner! It's one of my favorite styles. Goes down real easy in the summer.

One of my bandmates recently turned me on the the fact that Pilsner Urquell is NOT supposed to be skunky. He buys it frequently from the same store, so their supply stays fresh, and it's REALLY good! Nothing like I remember it in years past.

No beer at work today. The right people are here, but they just had 'summer sips' yesterday afternoon. I was off site at a meeting  So there was beer at work, but I missed it...

Much like Heineken, supposedly when it's fresh here in the US but definitely when had in other locations around the world. It's the damn green bottles. They let too much light in and light colored beers skunk easily that way. Yuengling, my favorite easy drinking lager, gets like that too though not as easily I believe since the beer is darker in color.

I haven't had Pilsner Urquell in a long long time. There used to be this old people restaurant my parents went to that had it on draft - it was the only thing they had I would drink. That place is gone, knocked over and replaced with a bank. Better than a convenience store I guess..

A localish porter, BBC Drayman's porter. It's good not spectacular. What makes me post this is the addition of a shot or so of Jim Beam makes it delicious. Tastes honestly very close to the Goose Island $25/4 stuff. $8.50 a growler, and Beam is like $22 a handle so I'm not even putting a dent in that. I only wish I would have thought of this a year ago.

I really like their Drayman's porter.. And I love jim beam, always have some in the house. If I'm understanding you correctly, you pour a shot of beam directly in to the beer?

Edit: I just remembered, that's called a boilermaker. I haven't thought of doing that in ages.

My mixology nerd friend wouldn't let me call it a boilermaker because it would have to be lager, apparently. But yeah a porter boilermaker was what I was going for.

Foolproof from Rhode Island is making some excellent brews, and this one is my favorite so far. I'm a sucker for farmhouse/saisons, and this one tastes particularly good on the beach :-)

Ok, I'm having one now, and I like it! I didn't buy a whole growler of the Drayman's, just a bomber to try it out.

So, what should we call this? I think it needs a name. A porter boilermaker? A Draymanmaker? :-D

Nice! I like draymanmaker. Or draymaker, cause it sounds like haymaker and that packs a punch?

I just found $8 on the ground, so I took it as a sign to stop in to a local beer joint and have a beer. I had a Founders Double Trouble IPA, and it was damn tasty. Especially for "free" :-) Bartender got a $2 tip too.

I'm going to need to find that locally... Last week or so the Devil Dancer came out, which is the tastiest beer I've ever had. But at $26/4 pack, I couldn't pull the trigger.

TD you'll have to wait until you turn 50 at that price

It's the first time I've made legitimate dollar/ounce comparisons to single malt scotch. Scotch is already crazy expensive and while even this expensive beer isn't ounce for ounce as expensive, I don't drink 12oz of Scotch at a time

Of course, I also just bought a couple 12 oz bottles of barrel aged porter for $8 a pop, which in a 4 pack would be $32, so what kind of beer hypocrite am I?

I was just going to say the same thing. It's not like I haven't gone into the liquor store and bought that high gravity beer for a price just like that in a 4 pack. It hurts when I do it but sometimes you just have to. My wife came home last weekend with a Samuel Smith Chocolate Stout bottle. It is one of those weird ounce amounts but it was like a pint more or less for I think she said $9  Man, I loved every drop of that though.

Then the next day I run around complaining that my Starbucks venti went up .11 cents  You know...... that overpriced cup of coffee that I keep buying

I figure we waste what we waste in our own ways but almost all of us do it.

Three cheers for beers !!!

And now I'm back

Time to post some beer in the order they were drunken.
I was listening to the first Darkthrone album where the drummer Fenriz called himself Hank Amarillo.
Naturally I picked this one up.
Image
Nice and hoppy with surprise surprise, amarillo hops en masse!

I then tried this organic ale from Sigtuna Bryggeri at 4,5%, nice but not super.
Cheap and good for hot days though.
Image

Next up was this mystery black flag
Image

It is named Nebuchadnezzar, and is an Imp IPA at 8,5%.
Extremely hoppy and tasty, brewed by De Proef Brouwerij in Belgium.
Here you can see the backlabel along with a Riptide imp stout I had to have right after to save my taste buds from hop death.

Little Valley Brewery Stoodley Stout.
Incredible organic stout that taste old and full in a great great way, one of my favourite new beers this year.

Image

Dugges Mörk lager.
A great dark lager with that special Dugges taste I love. Full and quite hoppy for a lager.

While on my works summerparty at a restaurant on the island Ekerö I found this superlocal brewery called Bryggeri Nyckelbydal, who only produces beer for 2 restaurants due to their small capacity! I was lucky to say the least.

Image

Treudd was a saison and tasted like a weissber brun, the winner of the two. 7,2%
Bronsguden was a fantastic amber ale at 6,5%

Image
Image

At the same place I tried this african lager, I will never drink this again

Södra Almighty, an almighty APA at only 4.3%, read the can for some details

Image

Electric Nurse Easter Porter, made by an electrician and a nurse, hence the name.
Brewed at Dugges, but it left me rather disappointed. Way too bland and watery for my taste.

Image

This one saved that day hehe.
