Love the whiskey. Both kinds...
And I love having new local craft breweries on the rise. Jack's Abby, known for their Baltic porter and IPL, also makes this terrific double IPL. If you're turned off by IPL as I was, try this. This is much closer to a lager flavored double IPA than it is to a hoppy lager. If that makes sense...

Jefe, I agree with you on the ola dubh. The 12 year is still my alltime favourite beer, but 16/18 isn't even top 10
I wanted something with chocolate, so I poured this old friend again. Real dark choco is the shizzle.

I can see why the 12 year is your favorite! It's weird that the others are more expensive, but just don't have the character of the 12.

Just about picked up the same bottle of Young's Double Chocolate in your honor Fred, but saw this and been wanting to try it forever.

Hoppy, bitter, not malty but amazingly smooth body (look at the head!). I need to drink all 22oz before I make a decision on whether I love it, but hell if nothing else it's 9.4%abv.

Edit - as always, never rate a beer after the first sip. This is delicious. A single that drinks like a double. Grassy and piney.

^ I wish I'd found the enjoy by 4.20, but I missed it. I'm jealous!!

Pulled this out of the cellar. Purchased in May 2013, so I aged it for just under a year. Damn it's good! Malty with an earthy, mossy finish.

Hello Brewskins, it's been a while but here is what I'm starting with tonight Image I haven't been building pedals, I've been in the amp mode lately. Work and family has bogged everything down too. Oh, and to throw sand in the Vaseline I stopped breathing twice the other-night. Apparently I have to go for sleep apnea tests

Yes - love the 3 Ps. Have one aging in the cellar though it might not last more than a month or two.

I'm at the Cape this weekend opening up mom's house. I was able to grab a growler of CC Porter, just in time before it's out of season. Fresh! Not the best porter in the world, but very drinkable.

Tis a good time to be on the Cape! Good weather, no traffic. I've had a couple of their beers, always liked what I had. That porter sure looks tasty.

Hell yeah, I definitely prefer the Cape when it's off season. The porter is the best CC beer I've had.

Picked up a couple Two Roads limited release beers this weekend. Only 600 bottles produced of a Berliner Weiss, a Wild Ale and a Bourbon Barrel aged Maibock. Those are being laid down for a time.

Nice brew scores, Campbell99 - those sound like they'll be good for aging.

And yeah, welcome to the thread! A fellow Connectikite.. Connecticutian.. Connecticalian... um, you're from Connecticut, yay!

Been saving this a bit. It's very good but still disappointing after having tasted Bigfoot Ale. A local store had 4 packs of Bigfoot for only ( ;) ) $14. At least they have some...

Nice Baltic Porter. Really enjoyed it while I was getting the grill going this evening.

Blew up my untappd last night - monthly beer tasting. I believe I tried 12 different IPAs last night. It's hard to be objective about what you're tasting after the first three, at least with IPAs, due to hops basically destroying your palette. No pics, because 12 guys in a room eating pizza and tacos and watching playoff hockey whilst sampling beers is far too chaotic for picture taking. But my notable favorites:

Oskar Blues Gub'na (imperial IPA, 4 12 oz cans, $17)
Avery Brewing Maharaja (imperial IPA, 22oz bottle, $9)
Cambridge Brewing Company (local) Big Man IPA (well hopped full bodied single IPA, 22oz bottle, $6)
Boulder Beer Company Mojo Risin' (double IPA, 4 12oz bottles, price unk)

The first two I've had before and always loved, they're solid 4-4.5 out of 5 for me. The CBC Big Man was a nice surprise. The Mojo Risin was as well. Always liked the Mojo, and this is the double version of that. Closed out the night with that one and an overtime win.

I saw that and just kinda said to myself "daaaaaaaaamn!"

This was probably the winner from last night:

Bible Belt by Prairie Artisan Ales and Evil Twin. Really bold, complex, robust imperial double stout.

Untappd actually called me out on it once I hit 12 - it game me an intentionally blurred badge for 12 pack, and said 'either you're sampling or you're wasted, either way good job!' something like that. Yes, I was sampling. When you're drinking 3-5oz at a time it's a lot more manageable to have 12 beers :)

Mmmmmm imperial double stout...
