I built my first pedal in about 20 years and it worked first try. It’s the Classic Overdrive kit from BYOC and I’m pretty stoked about it.

I was a bit intimidated at first since I haven’t held a soldering iron for that long, but it all came back. I took my time and followed the directions and everything went together just fine. The only thing that was a little tricky and took some time was wiring up the foot switch.

I think I’ll do a couple more easier ones and then jump into some more intricate builds this winter. Last time I made one, I etched my own board and bought all my parts from Radio Shack- wish I still had them.

Nice work. Your wiring looks excellent. I'd say you're ready to dive in again with both feet! What do you think you'll build next?

Thanks a lot- it was very satisfying to build!

Thanks man. I practiced for a while on some scrap wire to get a feel for the flow and to find the right temp of the iron. Once that was good, it was fairly routine, other than dealing with smaller parts than I'm used to.

I have the Delay and Tremolo kits coming from here, along with a couple of fuzz and a Rat PCB coming. Once I get a good feel for building, I definitely want to do some larger more complex pedals and anything that my friends want. I'm a bass player and not the best guitarist, so most of these will be given away.

Your footswitch wiring looks like you haven't been away that long.

Thanks, but that took me about an hour right there. I need to figure out a better way of approaching it. But, once I figured out how to best tin the wires, they were easy to fit in the holes.

The footswitch is definitely the hardest part IMHO.

I would agree 100%

One thing I did differently than your instructions was to use 3/4" wires for 1, 4, and 7 and 1" for 2, 5, and 8. I first bridged pins 3 and 6 with an offcut and used an offcut to bridge 4 and 9. I soldered it in #9 first and trimmed it to sit in #4. It got soldered with the wire from the board. Made sense to me.

Any chance you consulted THIS POST for guidance?

That’s funny, I didn’t see that. It just made more sense to me to do it that way.

Wow, that looks incredible! It’s a great drive, too. From one bass player to another, you can enjoy them too. Phasers are quite possibly the best effect evar!
