I built this one for a friend who wanted a hard clipper. Ignore the big solder drip in the gut shot. It sounds incredible and I love only having level and gain to think about. I compared it to the EHX Hot Tubes, Fairfield Barbershop, Silver Pony, and a clone made by TKOG of the RE-201 space echo pre amp. I know these are all very different circuits but I think the Gray OD is tied with the Hot Tubes as my favorite. I wonder, was there ever a Hot Tubes style BYOC kit? As far as I know, it’s based on the Craig Anderton Tube Sound Fuzz circuit.

As for the enclosure, I really polished it up to almost chrome and used yellow enamel with a stencil I made for the 3D font. I had planned on it saying 1976 and somehow ended up with 1975… To add to the story, I did some further research on the DOD 250 and learned that the gray box 250 was actually released in 1978! I assumed that it had just dripped onto the #5 footswitch wire and melted a bit of the insulation.

47n film cap! #5 foot switch wire is a soldering iron scar.
