Hey There,

I picked up some Evidence Audio Forte cable and Neutrik NP2X jacks.

I striped the purple insulation. I twisted the outer copper ground wires but inside of that is another copper lead wrapped in white! and the traditional copper lead wrapped in black. What do I do with the lead wrapped in white?

Thanks so much for any help!

In my experience in building cables for pro audio you use the white and black for your signal. The shield gets attached at one end to the sleeve and not the other. This is supposed to help with RF noise.

That looks like the cable used for XLR runs (microphone cables) You have Hot 1 Neg 2 and ground.

If you look at their web site http://www.evidenceaudio.com/content/product.html#forte they say the cable is for instrument and line. It has "Semi-Balanced Geometry: Shield blocks noise instead of carrying your signal to preserve dynamics and dimensionality". Could you use it as mic cable, sure. I, however, think they use it with a floating shield, but I've been wrong before around here.

I ordered 10 boxes of this for a whopping $10.40 shipped. Do you guys know if this wire can be used to solder connectors to it? When I enlarged the pic, I saw that this cable is for the Planet Waves solderless system, so, I'm a bit concerned that this may not work to solder connectors to the cable itself. If I'm mistaken, please let me know. Here's the picture for reference:

As long as the wire is metal, I don't see how you wouldn't be able to solder it.

This happened a while back where the cable was put on sale for what appeared to be .99 for 250'. Many people ordered only to find out in was supposed to be .99 per foot. One of three things happened:

1-Your order was cancelled
2-You recieved x feet in a big box
3-You went into a store, or contacted GC and raIsed a big stink

Some of thye prople in group three actally received some cable, anywhere from 75 to 250 feet if I remember correctly. All this time GC was claining that it was pricing error and they could not honor the price. jb4674 will probably get 10' NOT 2500'

It all depended on how good of a negotiator you were. Some scored others got nothing.

Well, according to the receipt for my order, it clearly says 10 Planet Waves Cable Station 250' Bulk Instrument Cable. If I get 10 feet of this, I'm just going to take it back to the store and get a refund. Or if I'm in a bad mood, I'll make those fools give me the 10 boxes that the order clearly states I bought.

Did you ever figure this out? I just got an Evidence Audio Forte too and am wondering about the 3 cables inside. I can't really tell from the responses so far what the deal is, but it sounded like maybe you combine the middle ones?

Has anybody else setup their own Forte cables?

thanks for your help!

The copper is the shield, connect to the sleeve at one end only and mark which end it is - that end gets plugged into the "output" jack of the pedal, "send" jack of the amp's FX loop, or the instrument.
The white is the common, connect that to the sleeve of the plugs on both ends of the cable.
The center is the "hot", connect that to the tip of the plugs on both ends cable.

As I understand it, this arrangement is done to keep the noise picked up by the shield from also running with the signal common to make an overall quieter cable. Planet Waves did/does this with their cables. I make no claims on whether it actually makes a quieter cable or not.

While placing an order today I noticed these, has anyone tried the two dollar neutrik silent jacks?

Now that this info has been up for a long time, how have the cables held up? Do you still stand by the Neutrik NYS207 and the mini Mogami cable, or is there something better you suggest (or anyone else)? I am thinking about building my own patch cables and thought I'd check for an update since this was originally posted years ago.

Also, did you post this info at this site, or did they steal it? - http://www.co-bw.com/DIY_patch_cables.htm
