I have a vintage big muff pi floating around somewhere with all three pots broken off. I'd like to dig this thing out of storage and get it going again. Does anyone know off hand what pot values I need? I'll see if i can locate it and see what the codes are, but i figured someone may know.

They are all 100K. Sustain and Volume are log taper (A100K) and Tone is linear taper (B100K).

Any parts supplier will have these.

Issue is......standard pots may not fit all Muffs and their knobs. I'd like to see your Muff.

Oh and welcome to forum.

Proper etiquette dictates that you welcome someone before asking to see their Muff....

Good point.

And I , too, would like to see your Muff. I never pass up a change to gawk at someone's Muff.

Obviously, you are new here, DVM. You know we'd rather see upskirt pics than to stare at a boring set of knobs (no matter how nice), so why would I need to wine and dine him before asking him to see his Muff?

i think i just found a new posting home. I'd be happy to show you guys my muff. I warn you, i haven't seen it myself in 8-9 years. when i locate it, you'll be the first to know.

its a big ass muff, so doing some mods to cram in newer pots is fine by me. the knobs have long been lost. shes gonna get the star treatment, updated switches and jacks, etc.. need to add an external power jack too.

Make sure you give it proper knob.

Re the pots: the new stuff is mostly smaller, so cramming three in there shouldn't be a problem. But if they are board-mounted, you may have to wire them manually.

Or something dirty sounding. 8)

Wow, juicy muff!

Looks like Small Bear has you covered for the most part.

pots: http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=812

knobs: http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=984

The knobs aren't quite period correct, but they are fairly close and will fit the pots. Maybe someone else knobs where to find the push on pointer knobs.

Sweet! Those SB parts should get that old Muff running again in no time.

how pissed would you guys be if i did this to it: I was thinking about using new small pots. mounting the board to the base with stand offs. and adding a boost inline. put two foot switches to either side and running some indicator lights in the old switch hole.

just a thought

Well, you could just sell it to fund 8 or 10 DIY builds of whatever you'd like instead of desicrating a vintage pedal.

If you intend to keep it and use it, then do whatever you damn well please with it. Doing what you describe will hurt its resale value as a "vintage Muff", but if you're not planning to sell it, who cares?

my thoughts exactly, but i do have an appreciation for history. i don't plan on ever selling it..
is it really worth anything in its current condition? seems awefully beat to hell, i just assumed it was more valuable for its sound than monetary.

It would be a shame not to use OEM replacement parts (or something really close). That's a classic box of awesome you have there.

If you're concerned about the work being done right, I'd be happy to do it for you at no charge. :D

Indeed. If I had the cash, I'd scoop it up.

Agreed. If it's your pedal, do want you want with it. I'd just personally recommend that you restore as closely to original as possible. You can sell it and, as Morgan points out, buy some other Muffs or have cash enough to build a small army of them. :)

Yes.

I don't have a precise idea what you'd get for it, but I'm confident that you could sell it easily on a forum such as this. Or trade it for something pretty cool.

It's a Ram's Head era Muff, and a lot of people dig those.

Edit: I'd probably punch a baby for that thing.
