Like other various chips from the 1980's and 90's, the CDA3094 chip is getting hard to find.
Has anyone thought to use the OTA module for the Phase Royal (designed to get the Small Stone sound) as a replacement.
While not exactly a pin-to-pin replacement, the Small Stone isn't that difficult to figure out.

It looks like it could work without too much trouble

thank
Mike

You wouldn't need to use the module. There are other OTA's that are easier to find or still in production that you could use as a replacement. 13600 or 13700 are still in production and there are several projects out there for a "small stone" using these chips. The CA3080 is obsolete, but still fairly easy to find. It is very close to the 3094 and there are several projects out there that use this substitute as well.

The unique thing about our OTA module is that we added a current mirror to it. The base of the Phase Royal has an op amp-based LFO that produces a modulating voltage that works with Optocouplers and JFETs, but doesn't work with the OTAs. The current mirror corrects this. That's why all of the OTA based phaser projects you'll find use an OTA for the LFO. So if you're goal is to recreate the Small Stone with an alternate OTA, you can just use that same alternate OTA for the LFO as well.
